Except that this new comment is in the context of the pilot admitting, by implication, that he did have control of the plane and made a choice to land on the beach rather...

"I was just following the rules" is rarely, if ever, an effective defense in a homicide trial. At very least a little more remorse ahead of a trial, would be a good strategy.

It's possible but seems improbable that a plane unable to steer would just happen to land on a level beach that, were it not crowded with people, would make a decent landing strip. :rolleyes:

So the logical conclusion is that a "Qualified Pilot Trainer .... with 100's off hours under his belt." decided to land a damaged plane on a crowded beach. :blink: :confused: WTF!

My thoughts exactly - come in low, stall it, and ditch it in the sea a few feet from shore, rather than try to land on a crowded beach.
