I haven't seen gas (in NC) under $3.15 in months, probably not this year. Mostly it has bounced up and down between $3.25 and $3.49.

Ah, so you have the "big city" pricing model, where there is a very large gap between premium gas and the lesser brands. I think it was like that in New York when I lived there. :unsure:

I don't subscribe to the "top tier" list at all, because it seems to include almost any brand that applies to join. In my bailwick I'd be hard pushed to find a gas station that isn't selling top...

Paid $2.989 ($3.139 less 15c gas credit card discount) for BP gas last Sunday. High octane for the Beemer was 60c more. That's the cheapest since February. :)

Paid 3.59 (less 15c BP VISA card discount) yesterday in NC, which is about right - there is usually a 20c differential between local prices and competitive (lowish) prices in SC.

If you look at the octane rating on the pumps - I just Googled a picture of BJ's at Northborough, MA the pump shows that they're selling 87 octane (basic unleaded) and 93 octane, which is the highest...

Ok, but it's more complex than that because the octane ratings aren't fixed at 87/89/93 - they vary from state to state they are in fact 85-87 / 87-89 / 90-93, with the premium being by far the most...
