Only good think in all this is the WEP won't apply as Dh worked well over 30 years in US.

So we'd not pay on earned income (earning to little) but will owe tax in both countries on retirement income? :ohmy: I thought I had it semi figured out, I guess not!

Also if they are living in UK they would have to earn over $90000 a year or some such figure to pay the US any income tax.

Dh plans on taking SS at 62 then his union pension at 65 and if he has...

Minimum wages full time here would be just over $16,000 at $8 an hour.
We were never "high earners" but Dh has managed more than the minimum on that chart each year. I however didn't. but my SS...

I was reading somewhere their substantial is actually quite low. Like minimum wage in CA now but much less in years past.

You need to take it higher up, if you have over 30 years you don't lose any when you claim your UK pension.

If you work in US (earning a substantial amount) paying into SS for 30 years or more you don't lose any of the pension due to the WEP, under 30 years and they will reduce your US pension as you are...
