Thanks all, we have seen a lawyer and will be getting married.
There are teacher shortages in 10 states in particular areas and some states are hiring from overseas.
I enjoyed your responses.

I'm an Irish and British citizen. I came in under my irish passport.

As much as I'm enjoying all of this attention I'm afraid I must go off line. I've to speak to the 'man' who deals with overseas teachers in an education authority on Monday. Perhaps he can shed more...

I walked into the US on a tourist visa and bizarrely when I got to Guam, where I passed through immigration, I was told that if I wanted to stay for more than three months I should pop up to...

Marriage is an option for us and we are considering eloping in Canada. This is not something we would prefer. Has anyone any advice on a shotgun wedding and the process after that?

Thank you everyone for your honest replies. Regarding a shortage of teachers I'm looking for work in an innercity where there are indeed teacher shortages ...as there are all over britain hence...

I'm a qualified and experienced teacher who has been told that he would be able to find work in the US as there is a teacher shortage. I have moved here with my girlfriend (US citizen)...
