Re: Leaving the USA... possible to keep permanent resident card alive?

I've only been in the US about two years, so no citizenship for me. I suppose if we wanted to return I'd just go through the same process all over again.

Re: Moving dog back to uk

In my view this is the tricky part. 10 days to ship is such a tight deadline, I don't know why isn't longer. In Phoenix here, as far as I know the nearest USDA office for approvals is in New Mexico....

Re: Leaving the USA... possible to keep permanent resident card alive?

Thanks for that. We are intending to leave for good, but nothing in life is certain. It would have been nice to keep the option open, but I doubted it would be possible.

My wife had two years max...

Leaving the USA... possible to keep permanent resident card alive?

Can anyone let me know the chances of keeping my US 10yr permanent resident card valid in the UK? I'm sure I read somewhere a while ago that in reality it will be treated as abandoned after a short...

Re: Need some opinion - a family meltdown....

Thanks guys for all opinions for and against.

For a while there my wife had decided she'd have to stay in the US if her son made her choose like that. Thankfully Son C has come round to accept the...

Re: Need some opinion - a family meltdown....

This is what we're doing at the moment. My wife has a visit plan and she's put the idea forward. We'll soon find out how that goes....

Re: Need some opinion - a family meltdown....

I think he did feel abandoned back then, that's fair to point out. I apologized to him for whisking his mother off to the UK. But he admitted it was for the best at the time, and was glad I took care...

Re: Need some opinion - a family meltdown....

His mum bought a trailer for him and his older brother to live in, and paid their rent for quite a while. They were also given a car. This was to set them up independently and give them a step up.

Re: Need some opinion - a family meltdown....

Seriously, that's not going to happen now

Her other son would be great to see and have an evening meal or something... but Son C? Don't think so.

Re: Need some opinion - a family meltdown....

Thanks all for the advice. This situation has stressed me out and really stressed out my wife, to the extent of her having nightmares!

To add something in sympathy to Son C, when he was an adult...

Hi, any input on this is welcome.

My American wife and I (UK citizen) have decided to return to the UK, after coming the USA in 2012 looking for a new start (we lived in the UK 4 years prior to...

Re: US to UK - converters, cat shipping and freight cost

Oh ok, so I wouldn't have to use PBS or another company.

Re: US to UK - converters, cat shipping and freight cost

Thanks guys, all good info. If I don't have to waste money on a clunky converter then that's a plus. We have the cat booked in Sat to start the pet passport process, and I've contacted PBS freight...

US to UK - converters, cat shipping and freight cost

Hi
My wife and I are moving back to the UK early this year, for various reasons. This forum is obviously a great resource (how did people manage before the internet?) and I've discovered a few...

Hello :)

My American wife and I are leaning towards returning to the UK next year after living in America since 2012. My wife already has a permanent resident visa in the UK.

My understanding...

Re: Return to UK for healthcare

Good luck with your treatment. I'm guessing this is the issue most expats don't want to think about i.e. going home for treatment even when they have US insurance. And it makes you wonder what use...

Re: Class 2 or Class 3 national insurance contributions?

I wouldn't have known that if you hadn't posted it, so today you did someone a huge favour ;) It really is another language to me. So once I have done the above, will they respond to a Class 2 NI...

Re: Class 2 or Class 3 national insurance contributions?

Great thread, great info.

I sent that form off ages and ages ago, feeling very efficient at covering all bases. But they never bothered to reply to me, and it's been on my to-do list for too long....

Re: Affordable places in Florida

Well I'll just answer your question specifically, whether you can make it there or not :)

Re: Chavs in California

Funny you say that, along with the OP's tale. Years ago in Orlando, it was all so peaceful and I was thinking how polite the Americans were. Then one night we witnessed an incident where two chavs on...

Re: Henderson police arrested a family for refusing officers use their homes as looko

I was reading about this elsewhere, on a Nevada forum. It's a disturbing story. The police even shot the dog a couple of times with some type of mace (?).

But I also read posters were surprised...

Re: Best 10 states in US for a person with meager income?

I wrote a long post and lost it

Oh well. My main point was Southern California never had the reputation of a cheap place to live. And following my own investigations of the area I can...
