People hold entrenched views on the subject it is true. But you'll find the entire Vegemite camp (ie Matt) very persuasive. Until you open a jar of the stuff anyway.

I think he will get a letter from Centrelink to enable him to open the account. As far as I can remember Commonwealth Bank will only accept cash or a bankers draft made payable to the account holder...

Same here in Victoria - no limit unless you come in on a permanent visa, then you have to do something about changing over.

We overlooked one thing folks (well only one so far but watch this space).

In Victoria, if you have entered on a permanent visa you can drive for 6 months after first entry on the permanent visa...

As in the UK residency for tax purposes in Oz is determined by many factors, not merely a validated visa. Simply validating the visa would not represent establishing residency for tax...

Have a look at the date tracker (small sample of applicants) for an idea of wait times. It's unlikely any previous medicals would be accepted. I'm not sure how you apply for the offshore...
