Re: 23% VAT Killing Portuguese Economy?

What you would do, if you were playing Monopoly, is chalk up one win to the Germans and start a new game. So, in real life, the Germans would bail out all the southern European countries who can't...

Re: Council tax / Fiscal Representative question

Sorry: can't help with that. I always spend a week in Lagos around Easter and pay it in person.

Re: Council tax / Fiscal Representative question

If you are going to dispense with your Fiscal Rep imminently, you will need to check what has happened to your IMI bill (they are sent out in March for payment by the end of April - with a fine for...

Re: Some good PT news

This week's Portugal News contains a report on a former senior police officer from N Ireland who has been attacked and robbed by a gang in Lagos after a night out at the marina.

I can understand...

Re: Working Hours

I'd agree for the most part, Ingles. But how about, for politicians and civil servants only, we had a cut in working hours of 100% with a cut in salary of 100%. Result: massive reduction in wasted...

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

Yes it is down to the driver. But the electronic toll system, which the government has introduced, will make it impossible for a tourist, driving home to the airport using a SCUT road, to pay the...

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

It depends which company you use. Some of those working out of the car park at Faro Airport are clearly operating on tiny margins and they do actually still use the old swipe machines for credit...

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

Whether the credit card companies will allow a payment to stand under those circumstances will doubtless be tested at quite an early stage. But it won't always be the case that the hire companies...

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

As regards you first question, yes, the hire companies can pass on toll charges via credit cards in the same way as speeding and parking fines. The name of the game will be to try and get the credit...

Re: Portagens & Scuts = Toll Roads

That may well be the case; but the tourist won't care if the increasing costs he(she) faces on his holiday result from the tolls or the IVA increase. As far as he is concerned the Algarve will simply...

Re: Portagens & Scuts = Toll Roads

Let's face it, for most tourists the bulk of the Algarve's "attractions" are in the centre and east of the region. That's because the western end's virtues lie in its relative lack of development,...

Re: Portagens & Scuts = Toll Roads

I think enforcement is going to be a real problem. If the Spanish visitors have any sense, they will ignore the tolls, safe in the knowledge that their government will refuse to assist the...

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

Looks like the plans are still being finalised. Apparently no tolls on the A22 before the end of the year; but none of the previously announced concessions or discounts either.

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

Not sure if your post was intended to be a sensible contribution. But assuming it was... the N125 is quickly going to become a mobile car park east of Algarve Shopping and nobody will be going...

Re: A22 Toll Road 15th April

And doubtless those shops will have a stock of dozens or possibly hundreds of devices that the Spanish visitors will require each day when they divert from the A22. I don't think so somehow.

So...

I'd be inclined to bring my own. I haven't seen any specialist sports shops with the range of shoes and kit that you find in England. You can find cheapish Reeboks and Addidas (?Adidas) in some shoes...

This may be too late; but I've just seen the original post. I recently bought a Trust webcam. 5 minutes to install - cd in the drive, ok the software installation, plug in the webcam - and you're...
