How can a PR become a non-resident for tax purposes

Hi folks,

This is a complicated one. I'm a PR in Canada but I will be out of the country for the next 2 years - but want to return after that. Ie. I don't want to lose my PR but is there a way to...

Re: Employment Insurance (EI) refund?

Thanks everyone for your advice! I wasn't employed by a family member. I was just under the wrong impression EI was social assistance.

Guess I should apply for EI then :D

I've been a PR for about a year and a bit now, happily paying EI. However, I hadn't realized that because I got PR via Family sponsorship (my wife), I...

How to setup Hydro?

Hi guys,

I'm sure I'm not the first one to ask this. But I must be a bit slow today, as I can't seem to find that info in the wiki or past thread.

So yeah, how do I setup hydro? I heard there...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

Exactly.

Oh well, I'm over it now. On the bright side, I've now got a good reason to not go to the pub, esp. when my mates try to drag me out

Re: Alberta Health options whilst awaiting an LMO

Hi Alun,

Did you need special permission (or did you do anything apart from submit the application) to continue using your SIN? I'm just asking because I'm in the same situation and after some...

Re: How do you deal with the racism in Canada?

*Sigh* It's a long story and an unnecessary turn of events. Basically, this is an English-style pub selling "pints" for CN$7.50 inc. tax and mandatory tip. When we were served, we noticed they were...

Re: My stupidity - police check expiration

You do have to declare where you have lived, however. Also I'd be surprised if CIC doesn't have access to our passport info. (ie. every POE it's been swiped).

Re: My stupidity - police check expiration

Hi Spruce, can you tell me where it says on the Canadian CIC website that police checks only last 3 months?

I've heard so many conflicting views - 3, 6, 12 months. Bit confused!

Thanks.

Also, note that you'll be able to apply for an Open Work permit based on your husband's TWP.

Re: Alberta Health options whilst awaiting an LMO

I read on the CIC site that you are allowed to send the Change of Conditions App & apply for the LMO at the same time. I guess the only risk may be if the LMO is rejected, your work permit app gets...

Re: same sex couple: What are the options?

Then when your Canadian PR comes through you may be...

Re: Does my SIN number have Implied Status too?

Interesting. So CIC allows me to work, but Service Canada doesn't let me pay taxes...?
