Re: Oh. My. God. Skyfall.............

You are not alone. Whole plot riddled with holes big enough to drive a train through. Unadulterated escapist crap. Occasional laugh but that was about it!

Re: Construction related questions.

I should declare my hand and confess to being an engineer.

Re: Well Water Pump

Assuming you are in Dubai or near coast - much of the groundwater here is saline - in many paces saltier than seawater. Anything above 2,000 mg/l total dissolved solids will be damaging to most...

Re: Sailing clubs in Bahrain or UAE?

DOSC is an active sailing club - dinghy and offshore - with good facilities. I think Jebel Ali Sailing Club has long since gone - probably absorbed into DOSC.

I am a member of the Abu Dhabi...

Re: Long shot - crow's foot spanners in UAE?

There are a lot of builder's merchants/tool shops on Najda Street in AD - between Electra and Hamdan. It's surprising what they stock - but you have to be prepared to go in and ask - they don't have...

Re: Any guitar stores in Abu Dhabi

There is quite a good music shop in the block between Electra and Hamdan behind the Crowne Plaza. Quite difficult to find - has a yellow neon sign. I am fairly sure it stocks Ibanez.

Re: What's wrong with the water in Riyadh?

I think the water in Riyadh is a mix of groundwater and desalinated seawater. In both cases the water that is put into supply is of high quality. The desalinated water is soft - although they do...

Re: Poppy Seeds?

I have heard that poppy seeds which are capable of germination are illegal.

If they have been treated (ie by baking) so that they can't grow they are OK.

How you tell the difference other than...

Re: Barracuda in Umm Al Quwain

I have often heard the story of people getting their car nudged from behind in Sharjah after visiting Barracuda - the nudger then threatens to call the police and point out to them that the nudged...

Re: Moving and red tape

As EM says you will not be able to hire a car if you have a residence visa and no UAE licence.

More importantly, once you have your residence visa it is illegal to drive with a UK licence or an...

Re: Warning about Take-Away's ......

Except that closing the outlet if it isn't the cause will save no lives, and failing to look for other potential sources will endanger more.

Re: Warning about Take-Away's ......

Re: Abu Dhabi nightlife

I've been writing a guide to AD pubs and clubs for a while - a labour of love of sorts.
