I would say that that is too little even if you live a very simple life - and leaves no room for error, visits back, and what if you decide NZ isn't for you and you want to come back to the UK.

For us there are two things critical. Do not buy in your first year and make sure you rent a sunny house with some heating. Will be well worth it!
