Re: Renewing a UK passport

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping to hear from someone who'd tried it out. Glad it worked for you. :)

Re: Renewing a UK passport

By Eurostar. But I wouldn't risk travelling on an expired passport even with them. Last time they didn't want to let me through because I still had a luggage tag sticker on the back. Also they do...

Re: Renewing a UK passport

Thanks for your reply.

May I ask how you know that the price will come down in April? Do you know by how much? The current price is quite outrageous.

Unfortunately I'm not able to visit the UK...

Renewing a UK passport

Has anyone ever renewed a UK passport from abroad by posting the documents to family or friends in the UK and having them send the application to the passport office, receive the new passport and...

Re: Questions about Malta

New question: how open are the local people? Is it easy to make friends with the Maltese, particularly people in their 20s/30s? How do they react to a foreigner trying to speak Maltese?

Re: Questions about Malta

Thank you for your reply. For accommodation I forgot to specify that I'd be working in Mosta. I'm finding things out little by little, seems lovely!

Questions about Malta

Hi there, I'm a young Brit living in France, probably staying in France for the long term, but will possibly be moving to Malta for a bit in the autumn (for a 6-month internship as part of my...

Re: European overseas territories?

I meant European-owned as in belonging to an EU country. Thanks for the info about Bermuda, though. Perhaps the French overseas départements are a similar case.

Re: European overseas territories?

Thanks for replying, although I meant to enquire about what overseas territories technically belong to the EU and thus where we, as EU citizens, can live and work without needing a visa as is the...

European overseas territories?

As an EU citizen, where can one legally emigrate to, in terms of overseas territories? Google is not helping. I'm thinking particularly of the French DOMs in the Caribbean: Martinique, Guadeloupe......

Re: Thinking of moving abroad...

There are programmes that allow you to spend up to a year in an EU country, usually as an English language assistant in a school. They're competitive, but not too hard to get into. It's a good way to...

Re: Teaching (assistant)... I'm confused!

Oh right, I get what you mean now. Hmm. As for the private English-teaching companies, I'm not sure whether or not you need to have completed a degree but I'd say that generally in France it would be...

Re: Ideas on where to look

My suggestion based on personal experience (admittedly limited to the East and centre of France) would be somewhere near Annecy. The town itself is beautiful all year round (huge lake, near the...

I am actually doing it through the British Council. I was placed in a lycée during my year abroad and reapplied this year for a similar position but as I'm a grad now I could only be guaranteed...

Re: Teaching (assistant)... I'm confused!

By the way, I think that link is old. It has some useful info but it also says EU citizens require a carte de séjour which isn't necessary as of 2003.

Jobhunting in France

Hi everyone. I'm about to graduate with hopefully a 1st or 2:1 in BA (Hons) French and linguistics and since my year abroad last year I've really been wanting to move back to France towards the end...

Re: Moving abroad. Recommendations? And a question about laws.

Many EU countries do indeed have ID but right now what sets the UK system apart is that these ID cards will be biometric, they will be linked to a large centralised database of information about you,...

I don't want to derail the thread because this sort of discussion isn't what this forum is for, but have you considered the fact that the biometric information on ID cards will also be stored on the...

Re: Some questions from a newbie.

Are the ID cards biometric, though? My main concern with the proposed scheme in the UK is the National Identity Register and centralised database of information. Loss of privacy, of civil liberties,...

Re: Moving abroad. Recommendations? And a question about laws.

I have a passport that doesn't expire until 2014. I have plenty of time to go somewhere else before it's due for renewal.
