Re: Is UK TV possible with sattelite?

Paying $40 starter rate for around 25-30mbps cable internet here in Michigan. Dreading the increased rate this autumn. Service is plenty for any streaming, we regularly watch live streaming TV.

Re: Is UK TV possible with sattelite?

I love the look of the services like UKTV Everywhere, but for now I am content with paying $5/month for UnoTelly (a smart DNS service) so I can watch BBC iPlayer on my WDTV Live box, and any other UK...

Umm... you can crash on our couch? Bring an air mattress?

They brew a wee heavy here that's so good they sell it in Scotland.

We have sharp cheddar so sharp it'll cut yer tongue out.

Tempted...

Re: World Cup - Warning, Spoilers may be here!

That was amazing. A couple of thousand people packed a downtown park here in Grand Rapids to watch the US game.

Not the best panorama I've ever put together (not assisted by my camera).

There are plenty of people excited about the World Cup in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and in many other cities I would imagine.

Re: Brits in West Michigan / Grand Rapids?

It's what we have been discovering for the last few years since moving to GR. It's a city that has reinvented itself over the past 10-15 years.

Re: Brits in West Michigan / Grand Rapids?

Sounds good to me! We'll sort something out for January or so. Let's also have a think on this thread about where to meet. I like the idea of the great GR breweries, such as Vivant, GRBC, Founders,...

Re: Trader Joe's, Aldi and Lidl Food Stores in the USA

Living two-three hours from a Trader Joe's we have never experienced one. We looked for one in Chicago yesterday while on a short trip, and we are hooked. Aldi's cool, but Trader Joe's is...

Watching football in Grand Rapids MI

There's a football friendly restaurant in Grand Rapids called SpeakEZ Lounge. It's just a half a mile north of downtown. It's heavily Premier League, and they also follow the US national team...

Re: Food snob

So is going to the doctor's. And as far as affording it, it's a question of making choices. We don't have a $200/month triple play cable bill. We don't have a car. We have a PAYG mobile phone. Not...

Re: Food snob

We can't keep chickens in the City of GR (local ordinance) but don't need to, the farm fresh eggs we get are sometimes laid that very day (sometimes they're still warm!)

I actually used to have...

Re: Chicago Ventra

I'll give them credit where credit is due, their Facebook people responded today, a Sunday, and told me where the info is hidden. There's one line on the fares page way at the bottom saying you can...

Re: Beer!

GRBC has its 1st anniversary event on Saturday, could be busy, but there will be some specials. We'll be there early.

I'd recommend Founders, GRBC and Vivant as the top 3, with Harmony and Mitten...

Re: Beer!

Vivant started the can thing here in GR, and have been followed by Vandermill cider, and Founders has now canned one of theirs. Vivant is a LEED certified brewery so I imagine there is an...

Chicago Ventra

What the **** is that? OK, it's like London's Oyster. But it's nigh-on COMPULSORY!

We visit Chicago maybe once a year, it's a short bus or train ride from West Michigan. We always got the day...

That got your attention didn't it.

Who else knows the joke "what's American beer and making love in a boat have in common? Both f***ing close to water!"

But have you had any of the craft brews...

Food snob

Anyone else here a food snob? How long did it take you to become one? Do you feel you wouldn't have cared so much if you'd stayed at home? For me, the absolute tripe they put into processed foods...

Re: Trader Joe's, Aldi and Lidl Food Stores in the USA

Love Aldi. We don't have Trader Joes near us, nearest is in Detroit or Chicago about 2 or 3 hours away. I remember cheering - after doing a double take - after seeing an Aldi pop up in Muskegon of...

Brits in West Michigan / Grand Rapids?

Found a couple of old (closed) threads with people in the GR area, hoping to revive something here. I've not been on this forum for a long while. I moved here in 1999, spent a while in Muskegon and...

Re: Good mobile phone service

Now, where you say they are locked for one provider, does that still mean I can swap the SIM for one from T-Mobile UK?

Apart from that, it looks like I will be picking up a ho-phone....
