I don't really mind what I do and not afraid of hard work, but I do intend on earning enough to invest to secure a comfortable retirement in my 50's.

I have a decent job here so could invest each...

Seriously, that is not my situation.
my folks were born abroad and so qualify but they were living in the UK when I was born.
