They do open them, and if the load is such they can also visit your home to check as you unpack. Worst that can happen is that you will have to pay extra tax on the new stuff.

I’m biased, never been to Perth but I spent a lot of time in Melbourne before deciding to migrate here. All of my opinions of Perth are based on second hand opinions from Aussies I know in the UK...

STNI isn’t a visa, and also doesn’t in itself guarantee a Permanent Residency visa at the end of the day. You still have to satisfy the Pool mark and other requirements of the DIMIA....
