Re: You might not be planning to return but.....

Errr. Why should my income tax be used to educate the kids of those people who have chosen to leave the country? Those ex-pats I met in Australia had nothing good to say about the UK and kept telling...

Re: Cost of flights different from Aus

There is no dispute about whether different legs need different amounts of fuel in different seasons and with different aircraft. I can accept the arguments about jetstreams, tailwinds, seasonal...

Re: Cost of flights different from Aus

Only ONE leg of the flight has to fight against the jetstream, and it makes no difference whether the journey started in UK or OZ. At some point, you will have to fight the jetsteam and burn the same...

Re: Cost of flights different from Aus

Ok, point taken :p but do we have any data to suggest that a Qantas flight is 2/3 Brit and 1/3 Oz?

Re: Cost of flights different from Aus

If that were true, then planes would be full on the UK-OZ leg, but half empty on the OZ-UK leg. Which is not something I've observed...

No, more demand translates to higher prices, not lower...

Re: Cost of flights different from Aus

Re: Cost of flights different from Aus

I haven't seen any "clever", rational or credible explanation for this phenomenon other than:

1) Less competition for products
2) Oz residents are less price-conscious

Same goes for all the...

Re: Australia V UK

Just thought I'd add some negativity to this thread, hope noone minds too much :-)

From what I've seen so far, there is simply nothing to suggest this will be the case. Isn't this just wishful...

Re: Just one reason i want to emigrate to oz

I can't wait to book my flight out of here. If this sort of thing seriously makes you want to come here, then please do come asap. You can have my room, car and job when I leave.

Re: oh dear oh dear

Sent some money home to UK this week and got 2.27 which I thought was good. Today it's 2.20! Could have gotten an extra £200 if I had waited 3 days (... or equally could have lost £200+ if it had...

Re: Aussie Slang Made Easy

The list seems to have missed out "How are you going?" (pronounced "Ha y'a ga' yin"), to which I feel tempted to reply either (1) that I'm going by car/bus/train/plane or (2) that I'm not actually...

Re: What Will You Do If the House Doesnt Sell

Don't get your hopes up! Given the current market, these companies are offering only 70-80% of the "market value". HOWEVER, their assessment of the "market value" is not the same as the price you...

Re: Fitness First Sucks

I joined Fitness First in Brisbane last week.

Managed to knock off the $100 "joining fee" and got it down to $12/week on a 1-year contract. Actually, there was a little leaflet that the...

Re: What is Oz really like??

Agree with above - you must have a compelling reason to make the move. Sounds obvious but often overlooked. Also, this is a question that people are very polarised on: either you love it or you hate...
