Re: Landing Tips?

You could list all the goods you may want to purchase in the post Christmas sales in the US. We declared nothing as we had already shipped our stuff in under the work permit. It seems legitimate to...

Re: Taking car to Ireland

We drove our UK car for the legal year while on contract in Dublin. Insurance through GEICO in the US was the best option. The irish insurers will offer you one year on UK plates but at an Irish...

Re: Whats to do in Ireland for families?

We found the stuff for our young kids in and around Dublin pretty poor compared to what was on offer in Edinburgh. The quality was not good, it was often pretty expensive and not that easy to get to.

Re: Changing a motor bike licence?

No straight swap in Ontario for the bike license. I was advised to wait and do the test at a later stage. Apparently you can skip some of the early stage tests and go to the final test.
BUT as...

Re: Paperwork, paperwork - Goods to follow question

This was not that difficult. I had the movers lists and a list that we had prepared based on recall of what we had in the boxes. On arrival the Customs people checked the WP and looked at the list...

Re: Moved: Ontario Driving Licence and Car Insurance

Quick update as RBC came back with a message that they would not accept foreign driving experience and increased the premium. So in fact Johnson insurance provided the best price.

Re: REALTORS/ESTATE AGENTS

The aspect that I found a little different was the buyers agent contract. The person we used did a pretty good job and took the pain out of contacting a variety of agents.
I met a few agents on an...

Re: Moved: Ontario Driving Licence and Car Insurance

Switched my licence pretty easily in Ontario (30mins as described by others). Insurance is a bit of a scam for new arrivals. Just persevere with the quotes as eventually someone will give you...

Re: work permit processing times

The processing in London has been slow over the past few months but it is happening. The medical exam slows it down substantially if you need one. Mine took 3 months to be approved.

Re: Exchange rate

Where is the best place to pick the spot rate?
I look at oanda.com but am never sure which rate the transfer agent will use.
Calling them every day for spot rates seems a waste of time!

Re: accommodation square 1 mississauga?

Try the local estate agents - they have offered to help find temp accommodation for us. They seem to have inside info on people who are happy to take short term leases.
