Re: How does this country survive?

It is, but fruit in an advent calendar doesn't really keep too well :D

But thanks for reminding me, I have a nice pineapple that needs eating...mmm...pineapple...

Re: How does this country survive?

I've found unfashionable opinions are equally unwelcome anywhere - that's why they're unfashionable :)

But the main point I was trying to make was, whatever the opinion, expressing it in a...

Re: How does this country survive?

Is there a nicer way you could have said that? I think it's a real shame the way people have to take digs at each other on this forum. At the end of the day, we're just discussing stuff and people...

Re: How does this country survive?

Yay!! Thanks for reminding me why I left the UK. I love Canada :)

PS Some of those problems exist over here but they're not nearly as bad, so I know where I'd rather be...

Re: How does this country survive?

Yeah, they probably changed the name to Kitchener after the general's ship was torpedoed on the way to France. He was replaced by Churchill (who has a town named after him on Lake Simcoe. And also in...

Re: How does this country survive?

It's not just the English cities. New Hampshire also has a Berlin (pronounced BER-lin) and other American cities include Delhi (pronounced Dell-high) and Cairo (pronounced Cey-row). It's like Chavs...

Re: Just a bit of posativity for some people it does work.

Some good points there, esp the one about the 'no experience' thing being an excuse :) I'm a journalist so it's hard enough getting a job in my own country, let own somewhere else (I freelance at the...

Re: Just a bit of posativity for some people it does work.

There's that negative streak I was talking about... I've interviewed loads of people as part of my job who are hugely qualified in their home country, have perfect English and still can't get a job...

Re: Just a bit of posativity for some people it does work.

I've only been on this forum 2 days, and although there have been a few people who've offered great advice, 80% of the posts I've read have been complaining/tearing someone else down. So even after...

Re: Lone Brit

Yes, that totally makes sense. Thanks for sharing that (thanks to everyone else on this thread who's shared painful stuff - can't be easy).

Re: How does this country survive?

I guess humour is subjective...he has his moments. I liked 'Made in Canada'. But the Rick Mercer Report barely raises a giggle.

Re: Do you have true Canadian friends?

I have two close Canadian friends who I can talk about anything with...it probably varies from person to person, maybe some people just find it harder to cross the cultural barrier...who knows (or...

Re: How does this country survive?

That's definitely something I miss. Canadian comedy is pitiful (who told Rick Mercer he was funny??? Come on out now, face your punishment like a man).

If I'm allowed one more gripe - there's also...

Re: How does this country survive?

I've been there once, sat in two-hour traffic jams on the M4 because of everyone turning off at Reading several times.

Yes, it is nice once you get in there.

Re: How does this country survive?

Ok, yes, there's a not-so-good thing about Canada - or southern Ontario, at least - every last patch of land is paved over. Sometimes a view without a parking lot in it would be nice.

Yeah, good point on the golf club thing. But I was just making a general point that if you don't like third world countries masquerading as first world ones, England is definitely not the place to...

Re: Lone Brit

My mum died of cancer when I was 14, and I never got to see her before she died (even though I was in the same country, same town, everything - they just didn't tell me she was about to die). So now...
