You are right about the British passport (forgot to mention that rather crucial fact!), however, as others have since pointed out, if you do not have a return flight to the UK you will often be asked...

Thanks for your reply babsi,

That's interesting about the visa as I thought a visa was only for visiting Canada, and also you normally only need one if you are a citizen of certain countries.

From what I can see it appears the form FD3 is for "...use by an individual resident of Canada receiving pensions, purchased annuities, interest or royalties arising in the UK"
