Re: NZ Scary story - or what ?

It also says a lot about the expats you met. They all enjoyed themselves but left anyway! Go figure.

Re: NZ Scary story - or what ?

And yet the population has increased with every census since 1858. In the 10 years between 1991 and 2001, the population increased by over 11%. In the same time, the UK's population increased by only...

Re: NZ Scary story - or what ?

And as for population growth as a whole, I investigated that a year ago. Over the previous decade or so, NZ's population grew at a much faster rate than the UK's (I think it was about twice the...

Re: NZ Scary story - or what ?

KS, you can believe what you will. I've had 3 cars stolen and 2 broken into. I've experienced some on the inefficiencies of the NHS, though it's getting better (if you survive MRSA). Violent crime is...

Re: NZ Scary story - or what ?

It's a mixed bag. He likes the life style. He misses political correctness (go figure). Workers are more laid-back (good). His quality of life is better.

I'm not sure where he gets him income tax...

Re: Do u need a 4x4 in New Zealand ??

I don't think we're disagreeing on the basics, Ian. But you put a different emphasis on things and weigh the factors differently. That's fair enough. To each his own.

Re: Do u need a 4x4 in New Zealand ??

I'm not sure, Campbell. They are certainly less thirsty (though petrol is catching up) but I think they pump out more harmful particulates. Diesel fuel used to be quite a bit cheaper in the UK, I...

Re: Do u need a 4x4 in New Zealand ??

Not if one is driving safely[quote] Im sure there must be some stats out there somewhere relating to accident rates for different vehicle classes, even if its just an explanation for the higher...

Re: Do u need a 4x4 in New Zealand ??

It's not ego, and SUV drivers don't drive as a group, so you meant "if". It is people, driving cars that hit people, not the cars that are deliberately aiming themselves at people. The world is full...

Re: Do u need a 4x4 in New Zealand ??

When? Don't you mean "if"?

I don't know about you, but the only living thing I've ever hit, in nearly 30 years of driving is a dog that ran out in front of me from trees. Oh, apart from a few...

Live Music

The Big Day Out is going on right now and that prompted me to ask if there is much of a live music scene in NZ? If I'm ever going to persuade my kids, at least the possibility of occasional gigs...

Going, going, not gone (NZ)

I've posted this on the other emigration site but there may have been a few stragglers here that missed it.

I was due to fly to Wellington today but it's been a struggle to convince my family to...

Re: Couple of things I forgot....

Why can't you get them unlocked in NZ? I don't think it's a peculiarly British skill.

Good luck!

Re: Quick quick slow (NZ)

I live near Newbury but have just finished some freelance work in Bracknell.

I'm not sure what you mean by up to the minute news but I'll keep you posted about how I get on.

Quick quick slow (NZ)

Well, after finding a job in Wellington, I got my future employer to fax the job offer to NZIS in London. It was faxed on the 27th Jan, after a couple of e-mails, I got confirmation on the 29th that...

Thanks. It's interesting and helpful but not a clear map. I came across a half decent one a few months ago but haven't managed to find it again, yet. I'll keep looking.

Re: Offsetting Tax (NZ)

I don't quite get this. Is the depreciation similar to depreciation of company assets? Capital expediture is usually written off over a number of years. However, a property usually increases in...

Re: NZ salary v. cost of living

Gazza,

It's true that most companies won't consider you, if you're not at least in NZ, even if you don't have a work visa yet. However, many agencies would at least consider your CV and offer some...

Re: Offsetting Tax (NZ)
