I understand it's a lower income...

Re: If the ATM swallows your card

I actually prefer to have cards and not solely have a single point of failure on my phone.

Re: UK state pension and minimum soc sec credits

I know a guy who is eligible for around 10 years of class 2 - he's 62 years old, I keep telling him to get it done (he has a few grand in the bank), but he is unable to defer gratification for such...

Re: Il rental income tax Califo

Not so sure about the bit in bold - they will be able to use their UK tax-free allowance of £12.5K against their rental profit so the UK tax might not be that much. The rest 100% agree, they MUST...

Re: Il rental income tax California

I assume you filed an NRL1 form in the UK before you left.

Anyway, you will pay tax on your rental for the April-April year in the UK and tax for the Jan-Dec year in the US. In the US return you...

Re: WTH... WEP? Really?

I see posting on FB indicating that this is now unlikely to get all the way through.

Re: WTH... WEP? Really?

Yes, here's me dancing around taking SS at 62 and not taking any UK defined contributions till the UK state pension age of 67, just so I could get 5 years of non-WEP'd SS and I might not have to...

https://www.facebook.com/groups/439205776541073

Seems to be the active FB group about WEP, to quote one of the posters:

I think with 10 years SS I was at max WEP which is a deduction of...

Re: WTH... WEP? Really?

Thanks guys, I suspect I will set my UK defined contribution pension to coincide with the UK state pension at 67, then take my US SS pension at 62 to get 5 years of no WEP, possibly taking some of my...

Re: WTH... WEP? Really?

Would there be any WEP for the period from age 62 (SS) until 67 when UK state pension kicks-in?

Re: Why do you want to go to the USA as a british person?

I was chatting to a lady last week about her recent A&E experience - 18 hours waiting to get seen - and she was clearly not well as she was admitted and spent the next 12 days staying at the...

Re: Why do you want to go to the USA as a british person?

I hope so, although I wonder whether the structure and culture might make that difficult.

Re: Why do you want to go to the USA as a british person?

Just be careful about that Rich - I used to tell Americans how great the NHS was, then I moved back to the UK and realised it wasn't (anymore).

Same with me and BoA and 401K (and later possibly SS although I'm aware I can get this sent direct to UK).

Re: Advice on Renting

The law hasn't changed.

S21 evictions are still being used, the law hasn't even gone through Parliament yet. The new proposed law still permits a S8 eviction for owner move-in or sale.

Re: usa banks and porting USA phone number

I got a Mint account - $15 a month for the privilege of accessing the SS website, my 401K and my banks accounts.

Re: USA Social Security pension from 62 - while still working in UK

Very useful info, around 10 years of my 35 UK NI contributions were voluntary so I'll remember this when the WEP time comes.

Thanks for your postings on this issue durham_lad - on this and other...

Re: USA Social Security pension from 62 - while still working in UK

That would seem to point to taking my SS at age 62 to get five years of non-WEP SS before my UK state pension kicks-in?

And not taking any UK private pensions before 67 either (but I assume my...
