Re: Renewal of UK Passports in OZ.

If you're near central Sydney, the PO in the Broadway Centre (Glebe) is fantastic. Open Saturday mornings and no need to book an appointment at any time for passport applications, UK or Aus. I've...

Re: Citizenship Test

Just thought I'd update this thread with our experiences in Sydney this week.

We (my wife Louise and I) had to wait about three months for a test date (booked 13th May for a test on 3rd August)...

Re: UK banks which are best to access from Aus

I've got accounts with both Royal Bank of Scotland (who know I'm in Australia) and first direct (who don't) which both have online access from Australia.

Re: Rent

I get paid fortnightly here, so I wanted to pay the rent fortnightly. Seemed sensible to me. Nope, even though every property you look at has a price quoted per week you can only pay it at a...

Re: Anyone emigrating with a baby?

We brought our little boy over when he was about 6 months old. Stopped for three nights in Singapore on the way and he (and we) pretty much adjusted whilst we were there, so when we landed in Sydney...

Re: UK Bank account - shall we keep it open?

The Royal Bank of Scotland are quite happy that we live in Sydney and send all correspondence to our address here no problems. We're renting out our UK house so there's a fair bit of money still...

Re: How to get Oz driving licence?

They stopped doing this about three months ago. I got mine done when we first arrived and they punched a hole in my UK licence. When Mrs R got round to doing hers, she went in on a Friday afternoon...

Re: Local Removal Companies - Sydney

Sadly we need someone to do it for us - both Mrs R and myself have bad backs, we might get half the job done but we'd never move the double bed or the fridge!

Re: UK schools versus Aussie Schools

Not a scientific example, but my wife was a University Lecturer in the UK. When we first arrived here she did a bit of teaching in a TAFE (FE college), teaching students who came to the college one...

Local Removal Companies - Sydney

Anyone have any recommendations for someone to do a local removal within Sydney? We've decided we don't much like the house we've been renting the past six months, and are moving a few streets away...

Re: John Masons

If they've told you your container number, put it into this site here http://www.track-trace.com/container.php and it should tell you what's happened to it.

Re: Recent Experience Of John Mason

No, that was how long it took. They collected it in mid Feb, but as it was a part load it didn't ship until late March. We were told it'd be in Sydney at the start of May, but when that date...

Well everything arrived yesterday, only four and a half months after it was packed up in the UK. All seems OK apart from a chest of drawers that's seriously damaged but fortunately insured. Now...

Re: Anyone know where you can buy Hula Hoops in Oz??

There's also http://www.britishsweets.com.au/ who have a real shop in Glebe Point Road. They do stock Hula Hoops, according to the website. We went there for some gravy browning. Mrs R is addicted...

Re: Considering driving upon arriving in Sydney?

Another reason for not driving when you arrive is that, if you rent a car from the airport, you're pay an Airport surcharge on every day of the hire. So if you've booked a car for a month, that's a...

Re: Credit card

We opened a bank account with Westpac from the UK before we moved. When we arrived we had to go to the branch to prove who we were. They told us we could have a credit card if we wanted even though...

They packed our stuff in the middle of Feb in the UK, and we still haven't got it. We were told it'd get to Sydney in April, turned out it only got to Singapore then. It's June now...

Re: Laptop advice please.

That's what we did - bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 when we got here. It cost us $1500 four weeks ago and it's gone down $50 already! The knowledge that Dell will fix it no questions asked if it goes...

Re: Shipping - How long did yours take

We left at the end of Feb, but because we had a part container our stuff waited weeks to leave the UK. It's on its way now, but I don't expect to see it much before the end of May, which will be...

Two days after the auction ends, the...

Mrs Robertson is keen that she doesn't spend her first week in Australia endlessly saying 'Goodness me - I wonder why I didn't put one of those in our baggage?' (or some similar turn of phrase!). ...
