Re: NZ - poverty myth.

You are mixing up two different concepts. 1. genuine poverty. 2. poverty as perceived by myself.

The second concept is simply based on what I consider to be enough for a minimum quality of life in...

Re: NZ - poverty myth.

I have never been happy with the definition of 'poverty' as a level of income some way below the median. Poverty can easily be measured in more absolute terms, eg a definition that would look at the...

Re: migration & NZ economic outlook

You're actually not correct about migrants from the UK, which are still high vs last 10 years average, plus overall inward migration is holding steady at about +45,000 a year. However, net...

3 piece suite etc generally looks a tad more expensive in NZ.

Don't...

Re: What kind of standard of living can I get for...

Re: What kind of standard of living can I get for...

After tax you'll have less than $1000 a week, that is pushing the povo line though without any mortgage to pay you should be able to afford to run 2 cars and have some holidays.

Certainly NOT a...

No - you are liable to tax in both the Uk and in NZ on any interest earned, not declaring it can be a criminal offence.

Out Queenstown/ Alexandria way there are some of NZ's best vineyards with 'guaranteed' sunshine and temperatures of about 30C for the summer months.

You can expect a lower temp - maybe 20-24C in...

Re: Are there white-tail spiders in Dunedin?

Don't come to NZ, it's a jungle out there. ;)
