Re: Renting UK house out?? Good idea or bad??

If you arrive in NZ after April 2006 you should be able to use the new 4-year tax exemption for new migrants on your rental income. HOWEVER, as the income is earned in UK the UK IR will most likely...

Re: Independant consultant or Limited company

NZ operates something similar to the punative IR35 tax regime found in the UK - but far less severe. Even so if you operate as a Ltd Co. you will be taxed on the higher 39% rate if your income...

Re: Boring tax question

Sarah,

I just wanted to highlight an important distinction: You are now first and foremost a NZ tax resident - and will be expected to pay NZ taxes on your world-wide income. Period. Any double...

Re: Boring tax question

Sarah,

You certainly wont have to pay tax twice... your UK tax paid simply counts towards your NZ liability - yet it does not avoid the need to account to the NZ IR. You are now a NZ tax resident...

Re: Investor Category Application

With the 'old style' Investor visa you can put your funds in any NZD-denominated account held in NZ. Thus you will get whatever your choosen bank is paying at the time. You should easily get 7%...

Re: Investor Category Application

They do publish very clear guidelines on what you can not do with your funds. Its all in the guidance docs published by the NZIS. So long as your funds are generating a commercial return you can do...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the grou

Couple of days to get an account opened with someone like HiFX. The transfer will usually give you cleared funds within 3 working days. Last time I did one I instructed the broker in the UK at 3pm on...

Re: Investor Category Application

I would imagine you would send (take) your passports down to NZ House in London to get them stamped. The Business Migration branch in Wellington will inform the London folks of your having met the...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the ground!!

Sarah,

Your solicitor will be wanting to pay the money in to a UK GBP (LLoyds) account. Get them to stick the proceeds in your existing Lloyds account... and then use a currency broker like HiFX...

Re: Are we the only one`s that cannot SELL our UK Hse!!!

I've been monitoring our area closely and only a very small percentage of properties sell quickly. :( Some properties stick around for ages at the original price when perhaps the price was the...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the ground!!

Forward contracts are certainly an option but I'm not sure you will be able to get one for such a (relatively small) amount each month. When I last looked in to them the cost was excessive due...

Re: immigration agents

For most people I don't think agents provide anything you could not do yourself. At the end of the day most of the hassle in getting a visa is hunting down required paperwork (business accounts,...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the grou

Obviously you are going to want to make sure that your UK pounds 'buy' as many NZ dollars (kiwis) as possible. IF you want to take your money to NZ (presumably to buy a house etc.) then just make...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the grou

Nope. Sure looks a lot better than it did towards the end of last year but I like to focus on the fundamentals. UK interest rates can (will) only go up from here... NZ rates will have to come down to...

Re: How much land is a PR allowed to buy?

If non-resident then in general up to 5 hectares but plenty of exceptions to this rule.

You need to visit this page and read:

In particular read...

Re: The main reason people come to NZ

Carmen,

Although NZ rates are higher you will of course pay tax on your interest - at your highest rate - that could be 39%. So assuming both a nominal 7% gross savings rate in NZ and also...

Re: The main reason people come to NZ

It can be straightforward so long as you ensure anything you leave behind in the UK (or elsewhere) does not fall in to the scope of UK taxation anyway. There's a bunch of rules in the UK that control...

Re: The main reason people come to NZ

Carmen,

Well... if you are a returning resident you will need to have been non-resident for tax purposes for 10 years. Otherwise if you are a new NZ resident the 4-year clock starts ticking the...

Re: The main reason people come to NZ

No no no no NO!

Taxes in NZ are NOT high when compared to the UK (or Oz). You have to dig deeper and compare the overall tax burden that applies to you.

Although the tax rates are comparable...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the ground!!

Psychologically 2.90 is probably a big marker. If it hits and stays then I personally dont think it will fall back below much at all. Hopefully clear run towards 3.0 now (just so long as UK rates...

Re: meeeeeeeowwwwwwww NZ dollar in freefall predictions of where it will hit the ground!!

Nope. The enormous drop in the value of the dollar will pull money out of the system through import inflation. Confidence will dissipate and the housing market will go with it. IF NZ interest rates...

Re: Why do so many people want to emmigrate from the UK?

Quite true. And I wonder what impact any of the following might have on migrants from the UK:

UK house prices falling
Perceived value of UK salary increasing due to falling dollar
NZ cost of...
