Hi all,
We've fallen in love with Cambridge, and have no plans to return to Canada. Leaving aside all of the usual visa, tax, and employment questions I would LOVE a recommendation for any company...

Re: ETA Visa. Freelance writer?

Right now she only plans to be here for the nine months of an MPhil. If it looks like it will go past that, we'll rethink.
I've also got French residency, so leaving the UK after six months is not...

My wife, a UK citizen, has returned to study at Cambridge. I am Canadian, and have accompanied her on an ETA visa. (Two years, but leave the UK after six months.)

What I haven't been able to nail...

Re: Another quick question: French phone # in the UK

For those following along at home: our French FREE mobile SIM allows us to call Canada, but charges an insane amount. We wound up getting Lebara (https://www.lebara.co.uk/en/home.html)SIMS, which...

Another quick question: French phone # in the UK

We're both running dual SIM phones, one with a cheap Canadian #, and one with a Free Mobile France SIM because both the long distance coverage and data are massively better than anything out of...

Re: Quick recomendations: shipping boxes

Flying with BA. We're talking textbooks; music scores, and binders full of notes. Weight to be determined, but I'm thinking around 100 lbs or 45 kg.

Quick recomendations: shipping boxes

Hi everyone again,
We'll likely need to ship a half dozen boxes from Vancouver to Cambridge next month. Aside from Canada post, who's reliable?

(i'm astonished that the FEDEX web site insists...

Next question: Medical care

You folks are a true treasure. Again, I'm 69, Susan is 79, and will be attending either Oxford or Cambridge this autumn. She's a UK citizen, I'm Canadian.

We're actually both really healthy,...

Re: Visa timelines (Vancouver)

Ok, I have been asked to raise two more questions:

1) If a visa is refused, are the application fees refunded? (I assume no, but can't find a specific answer on-line)V
2) I recall that NHS fees...

Hello everyone, I'm sure this info is around somewhere, but we're about six weeks from moving back to the UK, so we're a tad overwhelmed.

Re: University Home Fees confusion

My two threads became somewhat mixed up, so I'm cross-posting this:

Hello folks,
Just to wrap this up, Oxford University gave us a very clear explanation of our options. As you'll recall:
My...

Re: University Home Fees confusion

And, by way of warning to people with long and interesting lives, the UK visa application will be much easier if you've kept every single bit of paper documentation of everything in your life for the...

Re: University Home Fees confusion

Just for the sake of completeness, since the government is clear that schools have discretion in terms of fees, we will be applying to Oxford or Cambridge to see if there is a way around the...

Re: Wife is UK born; I'm Canadian

Just to close this out, thank you folks. I'm curious to see if UK paperwork is harder or easier than French paperwork.

If nothing else, we're both looking forward to a return to A4 instead of 8...

Re: Wife is UK born; I'm Canadian

Sadly, we go back at least a couple of generations in Canada or the US. Sigh.... Maybe I'll just move back to France, where I have a visa, and look for a route from there.

Grumble, grumble,...

Wife is UK born; I'm Canadian

Simply put, yes we're legally married. If Susan is returning to the UK permanently, which hoops do I need to jump though to live and work there? I'm sure the answer is buried somewhere on-line, but...

Thank you! The replies here have been exactly what we need in order to understand the rules. I think we will make the case to Oxford to see if we can arrange some kind of special dispensation.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was hunting for.

Now I'll ask the question: How many years or months do you have to be out of the country before you become "International"?
