1) The countersignatory does NOT need to be somebody in the UK if you are applying from outside the UK and are in the US. I happen to have used a UK citizen because I knew somebody and it's faster...

I was contacted by somebody at the UK consulate in Boston and given the Time / Date / Location of my ceremony. I was not contacted prior to that in any way. I assume they just picked the closest...

Are you applying from outside the UK? When I did my application I was charged on Nov12th and did not get contacted about my biometric appointment until Dec 18th or so
