Re: Storing wills

Thanks for comments and suggestions. I think I’m making a meal of this. Either I just leave it with the solicitor and then monitor the firm periodically to make sure it still exists. Or I send it...

Re: Storing wills

I don’t see why awill stored at the notary’s office in Spain is any more secure than a will stored with the solicitor in England, with the difference of an official central registry here in...

Storing wills

My Spanish will is stored with the firm that wrote it here, didn’t cross my mind to do anything else. But soon on a visit to the UK I will be completing/signing my will there, but I read varying...

Re: official exchange rate for Spanish tax return

Thanks for the info. So you use banco de España rate, which i think is based on central european bank anyway. And, yes, most of what i read suggests you should use the rate on the specific day, not...

Re: Uk pension paid into spanish bank

Depends on your circumstances. While the British Government may have good rates, surely they are still subject to the strength of the pound on the specific day you are paid. Presumably the amount you...

official exchange rate for Spanish tax return

Does anyone know how to officially calculate the pound to euro exchange rate when declaring UK income (interest/pension, etc) on the Spanish tax return? I’ve read in some places that it should be...

Re: Skipton International Accounts

That’s interesting and concerning. I had been considering Skipton International for a fixed term / savings account as a possible alternative to my HSBC UK fixed term desposit when it matures this...

Re: Uk will for Spanish resident

Personally, I don’t think inheritance or gift tax should exist at all, as happens in places like Canada, New Zealand and Australia. What is yours should be down to you to dispose of as you wish....

Re: Uk will for Spanish resident

Not really sure what you mean by disbursing the funds. My partner is my sole heir, who should the need arise could of course benefit from the money while we are both alive. I’m not looking to give...

Re: Uk will for Spanish resident

Perhaps they changed policy after you asked, but their current website makes it quite clear you can open a savings account. In the how to section for my fixed rate saver it says "If you have multiple...

Re: Uk will for Spanish resident

HSBC UK (ie not the expat version). I think it's the only UK high street bank that allows non residents to open both a current and savings account. I was surprised, but they make it clear on their...

Re: Uk will for Spanish resident

Thanks both
When you mention tax, i assume you mean tax due in Spain on the inheritance? It was duly declared through my gestor and tax paid, and i completed the 720.
I will look into solicitors...

Uk will for Spanish resident

I have a Spanish will, which I understand in theory covers assets worldwide. Since making it I inherited some money in the UK and put most of it in a UK savings account, so I now have an asset there...

Re: modelo 720 doubt

But that would be in the second block and not included with bank accounts I assume? And only if it's above the 50.000 in that category?

I only have a tiny company pension from a scheme I was in...

As I mentioned elsewhere, I have to complete the modelo 720 for the first time next year because in July I opened a savings account in the UK with the equivalent of over 50,000 euros.

My...

Re: Declaring UK savings interest

Yes, that makes sense. As I have a meeting with the bank I will talk it through with them. Maybe they can clarify the UK tax situation before I commit to anything.

Re: Declaring UK savings interest

I thought it all sounded too good to be true. What you say about having to do a tax return in the UK does throw a spanner in the works. Someone does my tax in Spain; I’ve never filled out a return...

Re: Voluntary Social Security Contributions (Pension) - Spain

Sorry to confuse. To clarify the messed up dates: I’m 64 now, so my retirement age in the UK is July 2026, and in Spain May 2027. So I have a while to go. And I have accessed my forecasts for both...

However, I have...
