Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

Yes I had the same experience being flabbergasted at the amount of paperwork they were asking for. They are asking for everything that might be needed to determine/confirm the child's citizenship....

Re: SIPP / IRS question

I'm sure that's right. To also be fair to them, as a professional in the field you would want to a) err on the side of caution and b) follow a strict plain-text reading of the rules.
The spirit of...

Re: SIPP / IRS question

I don't think there is a full consensus. The argument is that Rev. Proc. 2020-17 (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rp-20-17.pdf) exempts SIPPs from this requirement, but it's not absolute because the...

Cadets = military-type training?

The N-400 asks:

If one was a childhood member of Army Cadets or similar organization including basic weapons training/range time, would you think that indicates a YES?

Re: Fresh (ish) Start?

With your daughter being in the UK, I would think it is a non-negotiable that you need to be close by at least until she's an adult. On a practical note, you clearly wanted to ensure you could spend...

Re: UK Engineer looking to relocate to the US?

+1 get a job in the UK for a company that also employs a lot in the US then after a year try to transfer internally under an L-1 visa. Otherwise it will be very difficult.

Re: uk to NJ

I prefer Neapolitan style too. NJ/NY is it's own thing that's super thin and crispy. It's good but not my fave, I like some chew not just a cracker. Some American friends of mine visited Naples and...

Re: uk to NJ

I have to say I have grown to love it especially when it's -15C outside :) Visiting the UK and having to handle the oily pump was real crash to earth
But I also have it on my mental list of ways in...

Re: uk to NJ

It's common for NJ to be the butt of jokes and considered the worst place to live in the country, but this is usually from people who have only seen the turnpike and Newark (or never even been at...

Re: UK eSim While In USA

I simply got a PAYG eSIM with Three. When I go back I buy a "data pack" for 10GBP that is plenty of calls and data in the UK while I'm there.
It needs a chargeable event every 6 months to avoid...

Re: Establishing Healthcare/Insurance Costs

Just one more reason why the system is so insane. What would cost you $0 on Dec 31st might cost you $10k on Jan 1st.
Store up all your illnesses and then have a year of healthcare.

Re: UK Passport for US Born Childen

No they wouldn't.
Even if my parents had not been married, if they were both born in the UK and I was born in the UK, then my daughter born outside the UK would be British automatically.

Re: UK Passport for US Born Childen

Why is their marriage certificate important. I would think if they both and I are all born in the UK then that is sufficient to prove I can pass on my citizenship?

In any case, to update this case...

UK Passport for US Born Childen

Gosh has anyone tried to do this recently? It is incredibly onerous. I am trying to get a UK passport for my US-born child. I am UK citizen born in the UK and the other parent is a US citizen. Since...

Re: Home and garden projects

Surely at least hook it up to a movement sensor? Floodlighting and sounding a truck horn for 5 seconds every hour sounds...a lot. I can only assume your and your neighbours' houses are far enough...

Re: Contemplating a Move to the US

Great!
How have you modeled your net income i.e. tax rates in this analysis (Federal and State) ?
On the spending side, how much did you budget for healthcare both premiums and copays etc.? How...

I actually do think this one is helpful-ish

Minneapolis $273k
Columbus $236k

Re: Contemplating a Move to the US

Seems largely a question of timing.
It reads as though you want to apply for your GC (via IR1/CR1) from the UK - when do you want to make the move?. If sooner, why wait for your wife to get her UK...

Re: Relocating to US from UK

Yes $670/month for me, spouse and child (though extra children don't cost more) for a $0 deductible policy with $7,500 out of pocket max (copays tend to be $30-60, $1k for a hospital stay).
Plus...

Re: Relocating to US from UK

Interesting data!
Passes the gut-check.
Obviously lots of variation in circumstances. Childcare is one. Taking the NYC number of $306k for a family of four, if you have one high earner and one SAH...
