Re: PR Medical

It will go up slightly in December when my partner hits a year of skilled work in Canada but unfortunately mine won't go up any further in the time we have (more on that later).

Sadly no offer...

Re: PR Medical

516 (I knew that PhD was good for something…).

With the ~2 year pause in invites for FSW I would expect there will be plenty of people with higher scores than me who have job offers in the FSW...

Re: PR Medical

Given the way they collect data on processing times (i.e. based on the applications being completed now) I don't know how trustworthy the 11 months is. I would expect any CEC candidates still being...

Re: PR Medical

Most likely CEC (invitations for CEC stopped in September) though we are eligible under FSW too. According to the IRCC website the medical is valid for 12 months. The wait times for express entry are...

Re: PR Medical

In typical fashion I got a response to an email I had given up getting a response to as I typed out the above message.

In case anyone else is looking for a clear answer to the above question, the...

PR Medical

My partner (common-law) and I are looking to book up front medicals in anticipation of PR invitations starting up again soon as we are confident we will be invited in the first round or two. Both the...

Hi everyone,

My partner is applying for jobs here in Canada but we want to get a bit more clarity on the restrictions of the work permit. The restrictions seem pretty straightforward (schools,...

Re: Quarantine for COVID 19 discussions.

The way I'm looking at this is that I have a job starting in Canada and therefore we will just have to stomach whatever restrictions/hurdles they put into place. Really not so bothered abut 3 days of...

Re: Mattress fumigation on a work permit

Yes I saw the deposit thing. No indication anywhere of how much it might be though. I'm guessing it's discretionary and therefore depends on the CBSA agent. I'm hoping that as we can prove that my...

Re: Mattress fumigation on a work permit

Wait, we would have to pay duty?! I'm sure the stuff I've read says personal belongings are duty free for work permit holders (with exceptions on tobacco, booze etc.). Gonna have another google now....

Mattress fumigation on a work permit

Hey everyone,

I've just found out that the mattress fumigation exemption doesn't apply to people on a work permit as we don't count as settlers unless we're staying for 36 months or more. The...

Re: Insurance

Depends on what the host has set up - should be in your confirmation email I think. Air bnb lets the host set the refund policy. If your booking is a month or more you can't get back the first month...

Thanks everyone!

Spoke to HMRC (this didn't even occur to me until it was suggested here :getcoat:) and I'm feeling a bit more confident I won't totally mess things up if I do them myself. Part of...

Re: Work Permit processing delays

Thanks Souxie, but I think maybe I wasn't clear before - if all goes to plan he should have a letter of introduction for an open work permit and therefore his entry to Canada is 'discretionary'...

Thanks for your input!
