Hmm that is a bit chicken and egg. I don't need to take an income from the new French co as I am paid sufficiently by the UK parent company but what I want / need to do is to be able to come and go...

I agree and the rental cost of industrial property seems very reasonable in Ireland and there seems to be lots of it. I assume the tax system PAYE etc is going to be very similar to the UK.

Wow but you need 1 million cash and 60K pa, that's gonna rule out a lot of parents. Any alternative ways? Adopt your granny etc?
