It's very easy to get a UK bank account from Wise (Google it). They specialize in this, and their exchange rates for transfers are very reasonable.

For the benefit of future readers of this thread, I was in a similar situation, taking a small lump-sum payment from a UK pension plan. I spoke to HMRC and they told me to file R43. You don't have to...
