Re: Most tax efficient vehicle to invest for child?

Was that just a regular brokerage account, in your own name? An UGMA seems to a brokerage account in the child's name from what I've been able to surmise so far. My main worry is how to transfer it...

Most tax efficient vehicle to invest for child?

I have some money given by a relative to invest for my daughter. She is a US citizen; the rest of the family are British citizens. We intend to return to the UK in the next few years. I can't invest...

Re: Tax implications on sale of UK property (prior primary residence)

I just don’t feel like I am the enemy here yet I’m being attacked left right and centre with taxation 😩

Ironically one of the reasons we were attracted towards the USA (low cost city) since it’s...

Re: Tax implications on sale of UK property (prior primary residence)

Yep having had to do both lots of tax returns since 2018 - very aware! Hoping there's not going to be any UK capital gains tax if we sell after we get back so UK tax year won't be relevant.

Re: Tax implications on sale of UK property (prior primary residence)

This all sounds totally ghastly. I presume we would be able to sell up here under the principal residence exclusion if we did sell in 2.5-3 years' time as we bought our US home in 2020. Then we...

Re: Travel restrictions to be removed in November

I think it's safe to assume NIV holders would just need to be vaccinated and tested like tourists.

Re: Tax implications on sale of UK property (prior primary residence)

Thanks Glasgow Girl. Do you know if there would be any CGT due on the UK side? And am I right in thinking that if we sell it after we've returned that there wouldn't be any CGT due (we moved here for...

Tax implications on sale of UK property (prior primary residence)

Has anyone sold their UK property, which was originally their home prior to emigration, whilst living in the US? Any idea on the tax implications? We originally planned to move back to the UK, remove...

Re: Travel restrictions to be removed in November

Phenomenal news. My parents haven't met my 18 month old daughter who was born March 2020 as they had to cancel a planned trip in April 2020. We have since booked to go back to the UK for an extended...

Re: TurboTax vs CPA and ITINs

Thanks civilservant, that's really helpful. Any tips on finding someone suitable? I'm guessing the regular "$99 tax return" types found in strip malls may not be the ones? Should I be looking for a...

Lightbulb TurboTax vs CPA and ITINs

Hello,

I wonder if any of you lovely people could share some tax expertise? We've been here 3 years now and the 2020 return will be our 3rd tax return. I have copies of the previous two....

Re: Navarre Florida

I've been to Sandestin area on vacation if that's useful? Bit different from living though... (I live in central Florida). I personally loved the coastal drives on the panhandle. Absolutely stunning.

Re: Moving to Southern California/Florida

I live in central Florida (Orlando) and have visited Tampa as well as spent several holidays over in SoCal; we have relatives in Rancho Santa Margarita which is gorgeous. If cost wasn't an issue I...

Re: Work life in the USA compared to the UK, Software/IT Field

Hi Craig,

I have had absolutely no trouble finding a great job as a Lead Software Developer in a small company in central Florida. And am constantly bombarded by recruiters via LinkedIn, much like...
