Question Moving to Singapore - recommend an international mover

My wife and I are about to move (yes, again!) from the East Coast (Boston MA) to Singapore. We have some furniture we wouldn't want to leave behind and boxes with books.

Happy to pay for extra...

Re: How quickly did you get car finance?

Intl AutoSource will be able to give you a very reasonable 5%, but you will have to provide a ton of information.

Re: WTF: car dealership customer service standards

Oh, I am not upset or anything. I am just surprised at the local standards.

Re: WTF: car dealership customer service standards

But the price was still good. I wasn't in a position to walk away, I needed a car ASAP, and they knew it (since I told them I needed time to get the permanent address, etc.).

Re: WTF: car dealership customer service standards

Being a tourist with a typewriter (E-3), I increasingly feel pity for the Americans. Seems like a 3rd world country in disguise. Waiting staff working for tips, sales people's salaries at the mercy...

Re: WTF: car dealership customer service standards

Well, the manufacturer is already aware, since the survey is theirs. Maybe they'll contact me, maybe they won't.

Apology is nice but the money would be nicer :) . On the other hand, I am not...

WTF: car dealership customer service standards

I had an interesting experience buying my first car here. Nothing serious, but it made me scratch my head.

Yes, I know the car dealerships are supposed to be sleazy.
Yes, I know the sales people...

Re: Apartment offered - potential pitfalls?

I think I know the answer.

It's because the condo association is a bloody police state. "Don't do this, don't do that, coordinate the date of moving in". If only they were mobsters like Bob...

Re: Apartment offered - potential pitfalls?

Not about shit vs. high on totem pole.

I'm sayin', if you have 99 apartments which are standalone houses vs. 1 which is in an apartment block, and you got dodgy characters visiting you and a lot...

Re: Apartment offered - potential pitfalls?

Drug dealers would probably want more privacy which this apartment block does not afford (the majority of houses are standalone, picking this one would be counterproductive), and the neighbours...

Re: Apartment offered - potential pitfalls?

We have to pay a month's rent, which is fine with us. (It's in Arlington.) All the rest is fine and we saw nice BMWs parked in the communal garage.

Honestly, we are dismayed at the early 20th...

Re: Apartment offered - potential pitfalls?

Exactly what we did.

Anyway, it turned out that it was just "a bit high" (maybe a couple of hundreds higher than other ones in the same building because of additional options - but we wanted...

Apartment offered - potential pitfalls?

My wife and I just arrived a couple of days ago. We contacted a realtor, she found a handful of matches, many of which we spotted on Zillow and Realtor earlier.

We visited one of the apartments...

Re: Realtors vs. search engines

Thanks everyone, very informative.

The list of realtors was received via the AIG TravelGuard service concierge, which, sad to say, has proven to be of little value so far (even though they were...

Realtors vs. search engines

We're about to arrive to the US (Massachusetts), and more or less picked the place where we want to rent our home. We got a list of the realtors in that area, but after browsing their websites it...

Re: Suburbs north of Boston, MA

Great summary, thanks again.

Arlington seems a bit on the cheap side. Any (bad) reason for that?

Otherwise, Concord seems great.

What's wrong with the commuter rail anyway? They seem to...

Suburbs north of Boston, MA

Continuing the subject started in another thread.

My wife and I (no kids) are moving to Massachusetts for a couple of years (or so is the plan - a non-immigrant visa). My work is in the north in...

Re: Car: leasing or buying?

Whoah, that's a downer. How so? So far most people said it was OK, low crime, amenities and stuff.

Re: Car: leasing or buying?

Thanks Bob.

Outside of Boston. The work is in Chelmsford, but it's way too out in the bush for our taste so we want to settle somewhere in Woburn or Bedford, midway between Boston and my work,...

Re: Looking for accountants with understanding of cross-border taxation - keywords?

OK, so CPA is the magic word. Thanks.

Yep, I know it's going to be tricky, especially with all the structures.

Re: Car: leasing or buying?

I can pay cash, although I'd rather avoid dealing with user car dealers.

What happens if I drive over 12,000 mile?

EDIT. Actually, I see that the distance from my preferred location 10 miles....

Car: leasing or buying?

I am moving to Massachusetts for a few years (likely two or more) on an E-3 visa (sort of like less restrictive H1B for Aussies). This means, however, that once the gig is over, I'll have to get out...
