Re: F-bar F-up - is accountant bleeding me dry?

I'm pretty paralyzed with fear at the moment and can't really think straight. Spoke to another accountant whose fees would be $14k, so significantly more, and still required the 5% penalty (which I...

Re: F-bar F-up - is accountant bleeding me dry?

The accountant did note that if I had been outside of the US for 330 days in 2017, this would have been much easier, but unfortunately I was in the US for 57 days that...

Buying/driving a car in MA on a UK license

From what I can see, as a non-resident, you can drive in Massachusetts for up to a year upon entry to the US on a UK license (“The year of eligibility to drive in Massachusetts begins again each time...

Re: L-1a to Green Card processing route?

Hi guys, any updates in the last 4 weeks? It sounds like you're all ahead of me in the same process (arrived on L-1a five months ago, employer's lawyer will begin GC application process next month if...

Re: Death & Taxes... TurboTax or H&R Block?

Not tried Turbotax, but I I did just usedH&R Block's online service. Uploaded my W2 and answered a few of their questions, and now they've submitted it for me. Was very easy.

If it all goes...

Re: Tax help in US / accountant recommendation?

You're right, it won't need to be monthly advice - certainly someone whose hours I can hire as needed to give assured advice on these subjects (and likely more thoroughly around tax return season).

Re: Got my L-1, moving in Nov: advice appreciated

Thanks, I saw the social security office would either want my i-94 or stamped passport. Hopefully the i-94 updates pretty sharply after my arrival.

I'll get an appointment and go to a...

Re: Got my L-1, moving in Nov: advice appreciated

My work HR has advised me to go to get an SSN ASAP was per jammiie's experience, stating categorically that they cannot pay me until I have a social security number. So now, it sounds like that's my...

Re: Got my L-1, moving in Nov: advice appreciated

Thanks, noted.

I'm talking about when visiting on business for 4-5 days, in a downtown Boston hotel working in a downtown Boston office, i.e. no access to anything else. So yes, maybe...

Re: Got my L-1, moving in Nov: advice appreciated

I'm trying to avoid this kind of $550 spend if I can help it! As the shipping is paid for, I'll ship mine for now and evaluate later. I'm leaving my DVDs for now for the reasons you mention!

Re: Got my L-1, moving in Nov: advice appreciated

Ah I didn't mean to suggest I'd get them to do anything under my name - if the starting payment needs to be from me in name specifically then I'll need to find another solution. If it can come from...
