Re: La Bolletta

Morning all,

Considering all the inflationary processes and price gouging we've all experienced over the last few years, the sum of 56.18 doesn't seem all that much when I consider what we paid as...

Driving in Hungary

Hi everyone,

I'll be driving from the UK to Balaton soon and am somewhat confused as to whether I will need a motorway vignette or not. I know what I need for Austria as I've been there many times...

Re: House Hunting Questions

Lots of interesting comments and food for thought above - thanks to all. The hassles, pitfalls and bureaucracy sound much the same as those we experienced in Italy, not to mention the chainsaws at...

Re: House Hunting Questions

Either or really. Smallholding or house with big plot. We already grow much of our own veggies, potatoes etc here in the UK, and we also keep chickens so would like to expand a little bit on that to...

Re: House Hunting Questions

Thanks again. It would be pleasant to find a place which was fully done and which we could just move into, but in practical terms I would probably expect to find somewhere which needed at least some...

Re: House Hunting Questions

Thanks Peter. I was gradually forming that impression from looking at the various websites, although I've seen a few houses with plots of around 5000 sq m which would possibly be enough for us....

Re: House Hunting Questions

Excellent. Thanks again. I did find one with slightly more than 10 000 sq metres just after I posted that so it's good to know that sizeable places are available.

Re: House Hunting Questions

Thanks for that. I'll have a look at the link. I take it from what you say in your post that agricultural property is out. How about a smallholding..? or at least a house with a big (ish) plot...

House Hunting Questions

Hello everyone.

We sold up in Italy in 2020 and have finally made the decision to look for a new place in Hungary. Our aim is to find a good family sized property in a rural location with a bit of...

Re: Safety in Puglia, organized crime preblems.

Organised crime..? I doubt it unless you are interfering with their business model, and that means big business like banking, people trafficking, drug trafficking, illegal armaments, the running of...

Re: Retiring to the Ostuni area

I agree with just about all of this post. I had a place in the countryside between Ostuni and Francavilla Fontana (but closer to Ostuni) for 16 years and I still kind of regret selling it, but in...

Re: Traffic-related fines fines in UK

I've heard that too but like you it was a number of years ago. It does have the ring of truth about it however and is backed up by my having received several speeding fines from both Germany and...

Re: Driving UK to Italy

In terms of snow and ice switzerland is probably no different from Austria. I went through Austria simply because it was convenient for me and only ever did the route of France/Switzerland once.

Re: Driving UK to Italy

I did it twice a year for 16 years via Austria and never needed snow chains, like yours mine are still brand new! The winter tyres came in handy a couple of times but never once on the Italian part...

Re: Driving UK to Italy

It's unlikely you'll get caught in heavy snow in October, although it can happen in the mountains. I wonder which route you're taking..? I always went via Germany and Austria as I would catch the...

Puglia is great, but is the UK really that bad..?

I had a house near Ostuni for 16 years, but buying and owning a house there is a minefield which is literally full of mines, and the market works...

Re: Driving UK to Italy

I don't think that will satisfy the rules, although I may be wrong as it's been 2 years since I was last over there and the rules might well have changed. From memory I think the winter tyres rule...

Re: transferring proceeds of property sale to UK with Transferwise?

I don't see why you can't have the proceeds transferred via an exchange broker. That's how my buyer did it when I sold my place last year. Maybe the rules have changed since then because of Brexit or...
