Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

Another disquieting thing is that, having legitimised the rumours to a large extent by committing them to print, a start date is not mentioned which really is just prolonging the agony. Interesting...

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

Well, it seems that my post & MM2H advice stirred a lot of opinions, none of them favourable, & raised a lot of questions to which the Ministry doesn't seem to have the answers. Classic case of...

Re: Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia My Second Home Visa (MM2H)

For those who didn't attend the BHCKL/MM2H presentation yesterday, the word is out (official), even backed by tiny fold-out MM2H pamphlets. From the "middle of the year" but excluding applications...

Re: MM2H - do you consider MY your permanent base or just a 2nd home?

Generally speaking, when one talks about having a second home it means an alternative residence which is usually visited on a regular basis once or twice a year, maybe more, for varying periods, to...

Re: MM2H - do you consider MY your permanent base or just a 2nd home?

My point in post #41 was the very arbitrary application of the rules by whichever Immigration officer happens to be duty, the length of his shift (in our case it was after 10 p.m. on a Sunday night),...

Re: MM2H - do you consider MY your permanent base or just a 2nd home?

Let me relate a recent personal & rather chilling experience. We came through Penang immigration on 27 December & got a 90 day visa, no questions, no problem. We then had occasion to go to Singapore...

Re: Penang regular meetups for mm2hers and newbies

I'm confused. Are we talking Viva (TB) or Bora Bora (BF)? - they are about 10 km. apart on an awful narrow winding road

In any event it seems that the enthusiasm since the well attended meet-up I...

Re: Penang regular meetups for mm2hers and newbies

Hi physdude, presume you mean this Sat. Unfortunately we have been delayed in Singapore otherwise would have been happy to meet up. ETA Penang is now 27/12. Hope to catch up with all & sundry any...

Re: Expats are always wineing

I have been home brewing in Aus for 20-odd years initially because I couldn't stand the mass-produced, sterilised, artificially-carbonated stuff they were selling here at the time. The interest waned...

Re: "40% of MM2H participants prefer to settle down in Johor"

In my experience, for the most part it's down to the Chinese ingrained psyche - they just can't see the value of pieces of paper such as bonds or share certificates as anything more than just that -...

Re: Early retirement - was it what you expected?

Oops, sorry, I was sure you included a longitude of 100 deg. E which put you on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand  But I don't know what you've got to be grumpy about, or is it...

Re: Early retirement - was it what you expected?

Thanks for the valuable info, uk_grenada. From your co-ordinates I take you're somewhere near Bangkok, otherwise I'd suggest we get together in Penang for a "grumpy" tete-a-tete

Re: "40% of MM2H participants prefer to settle down in Johor"

I used to see a cartoon in many agents' windows of a crotchedy old man, stooped, walking stick, long grey beard, with the caption "This is a picture of the young man who waited for the price of real...

Re: Early retirement - was it what you expected?

"Carry on Doctor"? No,no. With all due reverence to the hilarious high-camp antics of Kenneth Williams in the Carry On series (not to mention "Round the Horne" & "Handcock's Half Hour"), this phrase...

Re: "40% of MM2H participants prefer to settle down in Johor"

Maybe not the buyers so much but I know from business experience in Australia Chinese developers certainly like to "bang their drum", often paying 2-3 times for sites what a local developer might...

Re: "40% of MM2H participants prefer to settle down in Johor"

Precisely my points, SushiFan & geedee. A ghost town in the making. I think at the beginning the Chinese wanted to impress the (Western) world how big & brash they could be, but now simple economics...

Re: "40% of MM2H participants prefer to settle down in Johor"

Interesting. I read somewhere that the vast majority are Chinese, younger, maybe unworldly, subjected to high-pressure selling tactics by developers, Chinese of course. From what I have seen...
