We are also due to move to the Kenmore area in a few weeks time well mid/end of November although from within Brisbane. I'm a SAHD (stay at home dad) to a 3 year old. We're always up for meeting...

Re: Kenmore - Any Info

Hi Shelley,

We will be moving to the Kenmore area in November (from the other side of Brisbane) also with a 3 year old. We liked the fact that as you go out towards Kenmore Hills, Brookfield and...

Re: nursery in queensland

We have come across this problem. When we were back in the UK my son went 4 mornings a week, from age 2 1/2, to playgroup/nursery. We now come over here to be told that the private day care centres...

Re: Driving Licence

Hi,

Do you know if you need to take both parts of your UK license in as my paper part is currently on route in the container (not very clever I know). Also does anybody know what happens if you...

Re: New to this......heading to Brissy May

Hi All,

Thanks everyone for the info.

I can already see that it will be an uphill struggle to find places for the under 5's. However, I won't take it lying down. I have run a toddler group...

Re: New to this......heading to Brissy May

We're in the same situation, my family and I are moving to Brisbane mid May and looking to meet up with people, especially those with young children. I have the impression that getting my 3 year old...

Re: Contracting in Oz

Thanks for the link.

However, we have decided it is in our best interest to go the way of an accountant and not contract management companies (too expensive if on a high rate).

Re: Please Help !!!

Not strictly true. My wife applied for two IT jobs and was offered both while offshore. However I think you need to have a special skill that an employer requires.

Re: Contracting in Oz

Hi,

I'm very quickly coming to the same conclusion about Umbrella companies in Oz. But I guess the million dollar question is - does anybody know a good accountant in Brisbane???? or anywhere...

Re: Contracting in Oz

Thanks for your replies guys.

From what I can see the rates are between 3 and 7 % (damn ridiculous if you ask me) from Contract Management companies whereas it's around 1 % in the UK from umbrella...

Re: skilled worked independent

As far as I was aware Germany doesn't force you to renounce their citizenship. They do however make you jump through hoops to keep it in a dual nationality scenario. You have to show your ties back...

Re: Paying off UK mortgage early

Nearly all of the banks have early replayment charges, however these have rocketed over the last few years due to the mortgage providers rates being squeezed through competition.

We decided to...

Re: exchange rate - actual rate v market rate

I did get a margin of slightly better margin than 1.09 but I was changing quite a bit more than 100k. That was with Ozforex and that margin was from the market forward contract rates as I took a...

Re: exchange rate emails

Have a look at www.ozforex.com.au and look at the charts and you'll see that the top rate over the last 6 months is around 2.48 for spot rate purchases (contract rates are higher due to the higher...

Re: exchange rate emails

We registered with Hifx, Travelex and Ozforex. For your interest Ozforex gave us the best rate. When I told the other two the rate we could get they said they would be unable to match it. We put...

Re: Dollar is weakening again...

I guess it depends how quickly you need the cash in Oz. If you have 10's or 100's of thousands of pounds to exchange and you don't intend to buy a house as soon as you set foot in Oz, you could get...

Re: Tentative enquiry re a very informal meet up in London/Southwest/Southeast???

Sounds good. I would suggest Croydon as we also live there and is fairly easy to get to for those without a car. Maybe Sunday 28th May? (The month after that might get a lower response rate with...

Re: IELTS grey area

I guess it depends on how quickly you want the visa. If you are requested to get a new IELTS result then it could delay the process by a few months especially if you can't get the dates you want. ...
