Re: Diary of our move to Canada

No harm in trying to sell the same day privately as well, if the car is worth enough. If you can agree a sale and collection day, you can always take it to WBAC later in the day if the sale falls...

Re: Now this is a Jobsworth moment.

Seems like the ticket could as easily be for managing to park both on the kerb and a country mile away from it at the same time as well as on a bend. Good effort!

Re: Am I over-judging Canada?

I was born in Bristol, so although I'm a citizen since birth (mum was born in Ontario), I wasn't born in Canada. My parents moved to Canada when I was a ... what's the Northern translation ... a "wee...

Re: Am I over-judging Canada?

No, really? Perhaps next time you have a few minutes off from wishing you were from Yorkshire you could explain some of that "sarcasm" in a way my feeble Southern brain will understand?

I get the...

Re: Am I over-judging Canada?

I lived in Montreal for a while when I was a kid. I'm expecting culture shock - but not perhaps as much as someone who's never even visited. I also took the family over at the end of 2016 for a recce...

Re: Am I over-judging Canada?

From someone still in the UK, what are they and what's wrong with them?

Re: Spotify vs Apple Music?

Google Play Music. You can upload your own tracks (on Spotify you can add tracks on a computer but can't then see those tracks from every other machine you have) and a family account gives you six...

Re: Advice on Emigration to Canada

This depends a bit on your visa route. I'm going through the spouse visa system to sponsor my wife, and our recce trip is one of the things we can use to show we're serious about moving.

Re: Moving back to Canada from London

There's a good chance it's going to get worse, not better. There are no guarantees, obviously, but if I were in your shoes I'd take the 1.60.

Re: Thank you so much but we're staying in the UK

Wow, they have some amazing options. I thought I was lucky with dual UK/Canada citizenship, but to retain an EU citizenship on top of that would be awesome. Hope they get to make the most of it!

Re: June 8th poll

That sounds about right. They'll argue they're not middle class or upper class because they don't want to be seen as horrible rich people, and then vote like they are middle or upper class because...

Re: June 8th poll

Re: Moving business to Canada

I'm in a similar situation, as far as the company side goes (I'm a Canadian citizen by birth, so no visa issues), and have been struggling to find good advice. I'm looking at moving, and run my own...

Re: Digital Media Players - tips?

Sounds good to me, but then I'm a filthy egg-chasing fan.

If you don't have a smartphone, then the Chromecast makes a little less sense. Think of it like an internet receiver, with your phone...

Re: Gibraltar

Brexit isn't why we're looking to move to Canada, but it's certainly not making it any less attractive. The idiocy is astounding - threatening war with one of our nearest allies, and a major member...

Re: Digital Media Players - tips?

The original version can have ethernet as well (I've got two of them, both with ethernet adapters). They're baslcally replacement plugs with the ethernet bits built in.

Our Montreal Recce Trip

I've seen a couple of threads asking about recce trips, and ours is still relatively fresh, so I thought I'd share the story. Maybe it'll help someone looking at doing something similar.

This is a...

Howdy! [UK -> Canada]

I've been lurking here for a while, but as the prospect of actually becoming expats becomes more real, it seems like it's about time I joined in :).

Re: Flights

We flew Air Canada from Heathrow to Montreal last year on our recce trip, and it was pretty good. I was expecting it to be painful - we went with a three year old and 10 month old twins - but it was...
