Re: Renting In Spain

Very useful post EagleJ, thanks.

Paying an estate agent a month's rent to find a landlord that will accept foreigners, won't ask for a guarantor, is willing to rent long term and hopefully won't...

Re: Renting In Spain

Thanks for the comments so far - very useful.

I do get the impression that rental demand is increasing with many properties now used for short term holiday lets. I'm also seeing many listings that...

Renting In Spain

Our time in Portugal is coming to an end and we're looking at Spain as our next location - particularly the coastal area that stretches between Alicante and Almeria.

It would be great to gain an...

Re: Bad time to move?

You're welcome.

There isn't really a market for winter lets anywhere else in the country other than the Algarve.

You might have some luck on the Silver Coast but there aren't many sites...

Re: Property Negotiation

Don't feel bad about offering much less than asking price.

Most of the figures you will come across have been plucked out of thin air.

Have a look at some property websites where it shows you...

Re: Renting apartment in Porto

Unfortunately, writing emails to estate agents will rarely get you anywhere.

Pick up the phone in the first instance and see if you are able to converse in English. Most branches will have at...

Rental Property: Thin on the Ground?

We've finally arrived in Portugal and have began the hunt in earnest for a suitable property to rent.

Except, it hasn't been the breeze we thought it would be. Emails are seldomly responded to and...

Re: Martriculation?

Good to know. The process looks a little arduous so paying a fee for a pain free expedited import doesn't sound unreasonable.

Ah, at least I'm using the simulator correctly! I was actually...

Re: Martriculation?

Thanks all. You've collectively answered my question.

We're winding down in Thailand, back to the UK for a short trip and then over to Portugal in February.

Re: Martriculation?

Very helpful, thanks. Do you have a breakdown of that €10k figure?

I'm trying to satisfy myself that you aren't charged the value of the vehicle twice, i.e. once when purchased, and then again on...

Re: Motorcycle License

I understand that sentiment. I learn to ride in Thailand and have had a few close calls, mainly due to external factors but it is easy to get a little carried away sometimes.

Thanks for the input...

Re: Motorcycle License

Good to know, thanks. Was your original license obtained from an EU Country? If so, your full entitlement should have been honoured.

A 125cc entitlement won't be much use for a S1000R so I had...

Re: Moving to Thailand with the family

We've been living in Chiang Mai for nearly a year now. It is in itself essentially a mini Bangkok.

There is a very large expat community present and a fair few schools for children of all ages....
