in regards to renting, put an ad in the local paper to look for a room to rent, ie. inneboende - lodger. You should get something reasonably cheap that way. It's not ideal of course but its a good...

The cargo ferry company is called DFDS Torline, they only have 12 berths apparently, so they're not exactely advertising for passengers. They sail from Immingham. I hope you haven't already tried...
