Re: Opening a SIPP before moving to US any caveats?

Thanks for the link very interesting, this just highlights my dilemma, any time I look into any of this I always get conflicting reports. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cost thousands,...

Re: Opening a SIPP before moving to US any caveats?

Thanks for the response.

Funnily enough I was just looking at SIPP providers and HL and AJ Bell were the 2 main ones and given I'd be looking at around 120K which I'd then never add to, as I'd be...

Re: Should I sell my house/ISAs/kitchen sink etc. before moving to the US

Interesting, thanks, think recently the UK dropped the period to 18m after leaving before you get hit with CGT so if the US gives you 3 years then that should mean I'm safe for 18m as I won't make...

Re: Should I sell my house/ISAs/kitchen sink etc. before moving to the US

Hmm so if I sold my primary residence in the UK say 1 year after I moved to the US I'd have to pay CGT if I filed jointly on anything over $500K. I assume that they would treat my UK home the same as...

Re: Should I sell my house/ISAs/kitchen sink etc. before moving to the US

Re: Should I sell my house/ISAs/kitchen sink etc. before moving to the US

Re: Should I sell my house/ISAs/kitchen sink etc. before moving to the US

Hi

Thanks for the info, did it matter that you received the proceeds of the sale after you became resident in the US, just wondering in case I put it up for sale and it doesn't sell till say 3...

Re: Should I sell my house/ISAs/kitchen sink etc. before moving to the US

A lot can happen to the market in 2-3 years and don't really want to sell up and move the family into rented accommodation for the remainder of the time, I'd like to avoid as much disruption as...

Re: Prep for migration to US and possible I864 issues?

Hi

Re: Prep for migration to US and possible I864 issues?

Thanks, I guess either way she will need proof of earnings to either prove exemption or actual submission of returns. From what I've read submission and proof of submission is likely to be better...

Re: Prep for migration to US and possible I864 issues?

Thanks, I've just told her that and she's none too happy with more forms to fill out so guess I'll be helping!

Only annoyance is the differing tax year so guess we'll have to look at bank...

Re: Prep for migration to US and possible I864 issues?

Hi

Thanks for that, the asset requirements wont be an issue. In terms of the tax filings looking at the guide elsewhere on this site her earnings have always been less than £40K a year which I...
