We live in Melbourne, but my brother is in Benalla and has also spent time in Beechworth. Both are really nice places to live if you want rural towns. Benalla is a bit flat, but not far to the hills...

Bayside is very nice, but pretty pricey so great if you can afford it. The next suburbs inland (Highett, Bentleigh, Cheltenham etc) are generally pretty resonable family type places and still close...

Ours was about 3-4 months - can't remember exactly how long, but there was a slight problem getting the certification of documents checked which took about a month

We are cashing in our ISAs - the hassles of the tax issues are too great to worry about. If you want to reinvest when you get to Oz then do so, but then at least the tax situation will be clearer....
