No is still the same, visitor visa whether it general or family grants 180 days maximum in the uk in any one year regardless of whether the visa is valid for 6 months, one year, two years etc, etc

yes you either need general visitor visa or if you have family connections you can apply for family visitor visa. You have to submit all the normal stuff ie host letters, letters of invitation, proof...
