Re: Can I still transfer my workplace pension to a QROPS?

The information I have (I could be wrong) is that an EU adviser can obtain those permissions with the appropriate qualifications and by showing full compliance with the UK regulations. Otherwise,...

Re: Can I still transfer my workplace pension to a QROPS?

I think that because of that last issue - linking UK advisers with Aus ones - transfers to superannuations will become more arduous and therefore less and less common. Most people will feel daunted...

Re: Can I still transfer my workplace pension to a QROPS?

Hi blondiefee. If you have decided you want to get your funds out of the UK, then it might be better to consider a QROPS in a neutral jurisdiction where you retain flexibility if you decide to move...

Re: UK ISA eligibility in whole tax year or should it be split?

The concept of 'residency' and 'tax residency' are the same thing where this matter is concerned.

It is possible that a person could become retrospectively non-resident for the whole tax year if...

Re: Advice re QROPS in UAE

I'm in Europe - I can't offer much insight on the UAE. I hear though that a lot of advisers there are unregulated.

Re: Advice re QROPS in UAE

I can only speak from my own experience. I was advising in the UK industry all through the changes from commission to fee-based advice. I saw the pre-RDR and post-RDR worlds before my relatively...

Re: Advice re QROPS in UAE

It's not simply a UK qualified practitioner that will need to sign off the advice - it's a UK regulated practitioner.

In my opinion this isn't a good thing. Doesn't it make sense that an...

Re: Transferring your pension from the UK

Hi Otto - Can you explain in a bit more detail why superannuations would fall foul of this? (Not doubting you - I just want to understand your interpretation).

Re: Final salary pension - to transfer or not

QROPS is certainly worth considering for any final salary scheme, but be mindful that a transfer to Canada is one way - you can't get it out of Canada once it's there.

You may find a transfer to a...

Re: Should I take private pension out of UK?

Can you cite an authority for this statement? My understanding is different, but I'd be glad to be corrected.

Re: Should I take private pension out of UK?

From my own dealings as an IFA, I know of at least two Maltese QROPS that are specifically 'US compliant' - in other words, they report to the IRS at scheme level (not at member level).

I dare say...

Re: Taking my UK Pension tax-free lump sum in Ireland

I don't think expats are cynical in general. If they were, somebody like me would be out of business.

Discernment and discretion is nevertheless important in financial services. There is good...

Re: Taking my UK Pension tax-free lump sum in Ireland

It depends on the cost of your existing arrangements and various other considerations. I'd suggest finding an IFA who will give you an initial consultation with no fee or obligation - most reputable...

Re: Taking my UK Pension tax-free lump sum in Ireland

I appreciate your clarifications, but there are so many ifs and buts here. For example, the ability to completely avoid tax-free personal allowances might not be useful for somebody with a larger...

Re: Taking my UK Pension tax-free lump sum in Ireland

Otto The Squid,

I agree entirely that the original poster may wish to wait until the consultation is finished before committing to a new UK plan that facilitates drawdown - other options may prove...

Re: Taking my UK Pension tax-free lump sum in Ireland

This is a question I encounter regularly in my professional capacity as a pensions adviser to British expats in Ireland.

For any future queries on this - there's no need to write to the Irish...
