No, a COPR is not valid for travel. If you are a permanent resident without a PR card then you need your passport and a PRTD. PRTD are quite easy to get - ours took around 5 working days.

Slightly different in my case as I will be self-employed and technically with no income. In that circumstance mr mortgage approval is based on needing a 35% downpayment and evidence of 12 months...

We're in the same boat as you so on Monday we're sending in our PRTD applications. I checked with the company in London who processes them and they said processing time is 5 working days.
