Re: Shooting US fiancée's gun at a range (FL)

Once again I'm thrilled to live somewhere the likelihood of a burglar (and we have many) arriving "tooled up" is miniscule :)

Re: General Advice?

I've lived in New York (briefly) and London (for ages). My wife is a New Yorker who I met in London. Frankly both cities are similar in lots of ways. I think a move down south would be your solution....

Re: ESTA entry

Just be honest. When my fiance (now wife) was working in New York I used to visit every couple months for a few days. I always told them I was visiting her, they always asked what I did back home,...

Re: medical costs for birth - the scary numbers!

So I must have been dreaming the last time I visited an NHS hospital and every single one of the nurses spoke English (and did a great job too). You clearly have some prejudices to work out.

Re: Long Term LA/SF Views

Given he has access to a TN visa, and Oddjob doesn't, I'm not sure how a Brit would fare any better than him.

Re: Emigrating to California with children

I think you forgot "No wait, seriously, this time it's for real, I mean it, the UK is finished guys", complemented with Daily Mail link.

Actually that sounds pretty dull. Bring on the vitriol!

Re: Emigrating to California with children

This thread is hilarious. Based on the nonsense here, and a couple other posters I can recall, are there many Brits in the US who achieve the Holy Grail of upbeat positivity about both countries?

Sorry, I did mean upfront in answering the questions put to you.

Re: a few questions

I live in London (albeit not in the middle) and it's ok. Obviously nothing like the rural Home Counties. That said, how would living in e.g. Houston or Dallas be an improvement?

Re: Slightly Complicated Visa Waiver Question

Best advice is to be upfront and honest. They can tell someone lying or twisting the truth from a mile off. You'll be fine!

Re: a few questions

Where are you living? I've been in the UK most of life (married to an American) and I would disagree with all of those points. There's no fundamental difference over there for any of those things.

Re: USC visiting UKC girlfriend in the UK

I have a Syrian visa in my passport which CBP officers have noted a few times, but it never caused more than a couple of brief questions.

I'll keep saying it, provided he has no desire to overstay...

I would very much doubt it. Again, please don't overthink this. He'll be fine!

Re: USC visiting UKC girlfriend in the UK

'Belt and braces' can cause you to overthink this stuff IMO. I still say be upfront but others may differ.

Re: USC visiting UKC girlfriend in the UK

Really? This is way OTT frankly.. Just be upfront. Visiting a gf is fine provided you're not planning to overstay. The immigration officers are trained to spot fibs and telling the truth should have...

Re: NOW our son wants to live in the US......

I'm anywhere there's free :drinkingbeer:

Actually I suggested the marriage idea too, provided the relationship is a serious one. From reading the thread I suspect it isn't yet.

Re: Just doing a little research

It does, I'm talking about people who haven't lived in the US and instead are dreaming about a life there based upon extended holidays they've taken.

Re: Just doing a little research

I know, but the difference is you feel at home in the US having actually lived there for some time.

Re: Just doing a little research

It's actually the correct word, given we're suggesting to people who want to move to the US that they pursue American nationals through online dating.

Of course, I targeted attractive women (that...

Re: Just doing a little research

I would hope so, and among many of those here it clearly is (Pulaski certainly, and I wouldn't have doubted it!). Making the suggestion just seems a little unedifying but perhaps I'm reading too much...

Re: NOW our son wants to live in the US......

How long has he been with his girlfriend? If it's serious then marrying isn't such a terrible idea. If it doesn't work out then divorces after a couple of years are no big deal in the grand scheme of...

Re: Just doing a little research

My post clearly wasn't a criticism of internet dating. That isn't how I met my wife, but I would have been open to it otherwise.

It's the idea that deliberately targeting people on the other side...

Re: Just doing a little research

Every time one of you suggests internet dating as a method of getting into America I feel uneasy.

I can only guess why certain people would deliberately seek out international relationships. It's...
