Re: Why did you choose to move to Canada?

We can agree to disagree! The argument of everything being relative can be applied to anything and just winds up leading to cyclical debating. I definitely feel opinions can be biased, it's a matter...

Re: Why did you choose to move to Canada?

That's an excellent point. Every single British person I meet tells me that they want to emigrate to Canada, have a friend who did it and loves it, etc. The Brits I've met in Canada seem to love it....

Re: Why did you choose to move to Canada?

You win the prize for most offensive, prejudice comments I've ever read. Now I remember why I don't frequent forums.

Tattoos? Drug addiction? Oh, the horror! Please teach us your ways, oh Exalted...

Re: Credit history for new comers

I won't go into details but no one pursued unpaid debts when I left the UK, nor did they go after others I know who emigrated. The myth of them finding people is a weak one at best, I've never seen...

Will go search for your thread and reply to this later. You've made many incredibly valid and insightful points here. And just thank you so much for your thoughts/encouragement.

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

1) He chose to move to Toronto with me and initiated the process as he wanted to go so badly. I moved across the ocean to England when we first met to be with him. This isn't tit for tat, he wasn't...

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

Hi Izzi,

Wow, I missed all of these replies as I didn't get notification emails. Thanks so much.

The tides have changed a little since I first posted, for the better thankfully. You were 100%...

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

Oh, working remotely might be a possibility. That's a good idea. He did live in Toronto with me for 7 years but maybe he needs to go back to remember why he liked it so much.

He always mentions...

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

Hi Jack Judge,

I think you're absolutely right. And as someone who doesn't give much importance to the minutiae, I don't really get it. It seems an extremely superficial reason to live somewhere....

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

Yes, that's a good point Sally. I will have a look around at jobs for him in Toronto. He would undoubtedly do well there as he had a great job before we moved and has since gained more experience....

re: Thinking of Moving to Ontario

$1100 for my partner's PR? No way. It cost us $50. The medical was maybe a couple hundred quid. This was in 2005 so fees may have changed. I stand by £50k being an excessive estimate that will scare...

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

I understand what you're saying. I just don't see any alternative. Thanks for advising, I hope something gets better either way soon. Breaking up a family over something like this seems irrational to...

re: Thinking of Moving to Ontario

Yep, it was only around $10 k for us. We were a couple, not a fam of 5. I'm Canadian, my partner got PR through me, so there was no $2,000 fee. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you... but...

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

We just bought this house. Moving again, when he is unwilling to move as it is, is simply not going to happen. Unless you know of a place that grows money on trees. Housing prices here are shocking. ...

re: Thinking of Moving to Ontario

Re: cost of moving, I wanted to add my thoughts. People have said moving will eat up £50K (!) and I don't think that's accurate at all. For us, we moved to Canada from the UK, as well as from Canada...

Re: Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

Hi Sally,
We can't move to a place with better walkability due to the cost of houses nearer to the centre, unfortunately. So we're in a very residential community with nothing much happening at...

Unhappy Homesick for Canada, Living in UK

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I'm writing because I don't have anyone to talk to about this but it's been eating me up for 2.5 years now. My story is this:

My partner and I have been...
