Two reasons. One, the lab I'm joining does work in the field I'm interested in. Two, I didn't get any other offers, and prefer it to the dole. At least it will look better on my resume.

I'm an exchange scholar (I will be working at UNLV), so J1. I will be paid by the University, it's just the start is a bit daunting because basically the University doesn't cover any of my moving...
