Re: Contract workers healthcare co-operative?

Thanks for the replies.
We've been desperately number crunching and are finding that our finances (contract here, or permanent there due to healthcare costs) would work out fairly similar to the UK...

Contract workers healthcare co-operative?

Is there any such thing as the above?
I'm trying to find a workaround.
My husband (like most people I expect) can earn much more money as a contract worker than a permanent employee.
However self...

Re: Schools in the USA

Thanks Pulaski and Bluegrass for your replies. Pulaski I'm sure that's good advice - comparisons aren't helpful and ultimately pointless. I have always admired many things American. My husband spent...

Re: Schools in the USA

Hi SirEccles, we've been to Florida and California (not Seattle) so I know they are very different places but as yet we are undecided mostly because my husband hasn't thoroughly investigated his...

Re: Schools in the USA

Thanks Sally and ChololateBabz for your replies too. My son is big for his age 5ft 7 and a size 9 shoe! He has always been larger than his classmates but it didn't stop him getting bullied. He is...

Re: Schools in the USA

Hi Pulaski, yes we have two children, girl 9 and boy 12 years. We have just been discussing (over a barbecue) how it was much more fashionable when we were kids (we are all in our 40s) to tease -...

Re: Schools in the USA

Thank you both for your answers, I was hoping that I was massively generalising and it seems as if I was! I will research further...

Re: Schools in the USA

Hi Hotscot, I had meant that I was a bit racist for making assumptions of an entire nation.

We are thinking perhaps Florida, Seattle or California. But I was assuming the culture was similar all...

Schools in the USA

Hello!
We are thinking of moving to the US from the UK. My husband has a US passport. I have a view (probably totally wrong and a bit racist) that American schools are horribly competitive, (as...

Re: Crohns and healthcare

Ok thanks again guys and to Sally for pulling the conversation around! It's obvious to me that this is a sea sized subject - I will investigate thoroughly and look out for further posts!

Re: Crohns and healthcare

Mmm, perhaps we should be looking at a year. So much to think about - I am not sure how a 10 and 13 year old will settle in to school...

Re: Crohns and healthcare

Thanks for all the replies guys!
Looks like this is at least as much of a contentious issue in the US as it is the UK. We are thinking that my husband might go over alone next year once he has a...

Re: Crohns and healthcare

Hmm Obamacare does seem -superficially at least - to equate to socialism.

Our new hospital in Bristol has just spent £250,000 on a clock which apparently is a work of art that nobody can tell the...

Re: Crohns and healthcare

I think I need to have a good read of the Obamacare plan, haven't seen much on it in the uk. There has been reference to the statement that it should level the playing field between fit and not so...
