Looks like I need to provide a bit more background. Every time I travel to Thailand, Bali or Egypt, the knee pain goes away. It gets back a week after returning to the UK.

US-style references from a British employer (in IT industry)

Surely not. But since I am likely to say good bye to my curent employer soon I wonder should I bother to ask my boss to write a reference letter just in case...
