Re: So... do I actually need a CA Driving license or not?

Well that answers that then. Thanks all.

And md95065, maybe if it is such a heartache to respond to a genuine question, you might not want to bother? Not all of us have been around here for as...

Hi All,

No doubt this has been asked a few times before, but I couldn't find an answer when searching.

I am on an L1 visa and live in CA, as we all know, I am not a resident, I am visiting the...

Re: Get here on your own dime! Advice required.

Now this is something we can agree on :). Without a bunch of cash to get going, you're going to find it almost impossible.

We were lucky enough to get a large (taxable) cash allowance when we...

Re: Get here on your own dime! Advice required.

Well i suppose this then comes down to individual circumstance then. As I am experiencing the opposite.

I drive much less here than in the UK as my job has changed, so my car running costs are...

Re: Is LA a little like Marmite???

I'd go for a middle ground opinion on LA actually. It has some highlights around the beach and Hollywood Hills areas, stretching into Malibu but of course some real horrors as well.

But as...

Re: Get here on your own dime! Advice required.

Fair point, and I will do just that.

No AC in the apartment, so it will be lower... but maybe we'll be hotter!

Also, this comes from several friends who are in the same area and have...

Re: New to the US, totally clueless, buying a car in CA

As said above, but my view:

$2-3k will get you a heap, it will be dirty, smelly and pretty awful. But it should run OK. Try to go for Japanese if you can, although its a lottery.

Insurance -...

Good idea.

I'm right at the start of our US adventure, only 15 days in so far... but it feels like home already.

Re: Get here on your own dime! Advice required.

Calling in from Orange County here

To put my 2 pence (cents) in:

We're paying $208 for 6 months for a 2003 Inifniti FX35, through Geico. We had to call up and speak to someone as we...

Re: What financial papers to keep

My big advice would be to keep payslips.

I seemed to need them for quite a few situations, including the visa process (on my visa type at least), proof of income for house rental and and buying a...

Re: Last minute nerves! - entering tomorrow

One final thing,

When approaching the officer, do I introduce myself as 'Hi I'm entering under a L1b for the first time'

Or just hand him / her the passport and let them figure it out?

We are flying out of Heathrow and landing into LAX,...

Re: L1A Blanket Visa - US Embassy

Almost, you have to pay the $500 anti fraud fee at the embassy. Hopefully you can claim it back through :)

I went in a suit, and felt very over dressed, plenty in 'smart casual' but none in...
